I'm running "Yo smite" with LR 5 on a 2014 MacBook air and i have no problem converting to dng and then importing into Lightroom. I use a sony rm100 mark1 and a ricoh gr mark 1. No problem.

Although reading his OP, I get the impression LR3 does work on el capitan not just as he'd expected.

Yeh, spend more money & solve all your problems! Even if Lawrence has to spend money to solve his problem, surely the cheapest route would be to just upgrade to an El Capitan compatible version of LR

Have you tried converting your raw files to dng using dng converter and then importing into LR? When you convert you will need to specify the correct version of acr that is used by LR3

I'm live mostly in Asia and use a 2014 macbook air 11 inch with 4gb ram and 256gb hd. I do all my photo work in lightroom. Basically i'm happy with the macbook but next time i will get a surface tablet. My only concern with the tablet is calibration (i have the same problem with the mac) and i wish Microsoft had put an sd slot on the surface instead of a micro sd slot (again, i have a similar problem with the mac, ie no sd slot). Of course sd card readers are easily available but an internal reader would be great. What really appeals to me about the surface is the tablet form and the pen.
