  1. There you go again, one-,upping. Bad habit.
  2. I have lost the Lumigrid that came with my Sekonic L 358 light meter. How to replace it?
  3. I have been wonderfully served by the AIS 85mm f2.0. And it is available at good prices. The 85mm 1.4 AIS is a wonder, but still very costly for that one extra f-stop. I had one, and dropped it! The helical is damaged, and Nikon no longer stocks parts for AIS.
  4. I'll have to scratch around for ground glass. Maybe B&H will have a piece. I have an MD Rokkor lens 24 mm f2.8 that I would like to carry around for occasional use. I actually needed it today when I was photographing the new extension to Penn Station. I can't afford a Leica 24mm, and wouldn't use it that often anyway. When I was setting up my Minolta kit in the seventies, I bought that 24 plus a 50mm 1.7, and 135mm 3.5. The Rokkorfiles guy claims these are among the best for Minolta. I knew nothing about Minolta glass when I made the purchases. Just beginner's luck.
  5. Mike, it's a film thing. You wouldn't understand.
  6. You have good taste in glass. Those AIS 180s and 135s are marvels.
  7. I have ordered a cheap adapter for using Minolta MD lenses on a Leica M3. I don't mind setting exposures, but fear that focusing will be scale-focus only. Am I right? Any words of advice?
  8. I am somewhat nearsighted. Should I get a Minolta minus or plus diopter?
  9. I have ordered a 620 with a Sigma AF 70-200 from the same time. The reviews look good. What kind of battery does the camera take? Is it true you can't shoot the 620 in manual mode? I shoot film, and wanted to try a Canon film burner. I have mostly been shooting with a Nikon N90s, which I believe the 620 was contemporary with.
  10. Sorry for the repetitions. I'm still figuring this out.
  11. I bought a great M3 from Mr. Hansen when he was still on Madison Avenue. What a charming man! I paid $700 for the camera and a case. After I paid, he said, "Anything else?" I answered feebly, " Noooo." He laughed and said, "Are you sure?" So I got an MR meter also. As he wrapped it up, he said, "People are asking ridiculous prices for those things," and let me have one for twenty bucks. BTW, I'm taking that set very soon to photograph/see the new part of Penn Station.
  12. I woke up this morning to recall putting it in a particular plastic bag. Now to find the bag!
  13. The N90s/F90x was a thousand dollars back in the nineties. Pros would use it as a second body. It is very solid. Yes, it is solid enough to be a weapon. The AF and AE are great. How did I discover it? Two Japanese girls stopped me on the street and asked me to take their picture. They had an F90x. I took one frame and knew I wanted one of my own. The camera, not a Japanese girl. Although......
  14. I can't find the lumigrid for this meter, and I remember having one once. Were the grids stored inside the meters or cases, or were they a loose part?
  15. Does this camera have IS? Is it in-camera or in the lenses? Are Sigma AF lenses compatible with all 620 features?
  16. But there only two files on my memory card. ???????
  17. On the G12 picture display, there is a set of numbers above the frame count. It is at the top of the screen on the right. Two usually large numbers. What do they count?
  18. When developing film, I found only one way to always avoid air bells: do one rinse between developer and fixer. You'd be surprised how often the film books fail to suggest that. Second: whether shooting mono or color, remember Capa's advice to "get closer.". Looking back at my early shots, I can see that almost every one could have been improved had I heard Capa's advice. Third: shoot with one focal length for your first year. I did that myself because I couldn't afford a second lens! That turned out to be fortunate, and in accord with the advice of photography teachers I have since read. But don't fall into a trap that I did. I have failed to experiment enough with anything but 50mm! When I decide to reform, I will shoot a lot with 85mm, a focal length I find congenial. I will have to struggle against mighty inertia. Fourth: study Eugene Smith.
