1.
Frank, popup blockers do not work in this case, (well at least for me and this issue) because they are not separate pop up windows. they are the type of links where you run your mouse over the link and the ad will appear, then move your mouse off the hyperlink and the ad vanishes.
I use Google Chrome, but I tried the popup blocker in IE, and it did not stop the mouse over ads.
Either way it was part of a setting for this site, and since I have a paid membership I disabled the option like Lex said and it fixed the issue.

  2.
Yeah, I always used steadyshot on a tripod, whether it was the A700 or A65, and it's always pin sharp.
I believe there is only a small risk the sensor might move, but I can only see that happening if the tripod moves or vibrates, which would mean even with the sensor off it would not be totally sharp because of tripod movement.

  3.
What is the story with random web links appearing in posts one minute then not being there the next minute.
For example in my post
http://www.photo.net/sony-minolta-slr-system-forum/00bOQT
in the part of my text "I am not sure how the memory recall functions work on the A77, but if it's like the A700 then you just press a button to flick between the 3."
The word work had the following hyperlink attached
https://ezincometoday.com
I have noticed this in a few posts, but I could then refresh the page and these word links will vanish.
What's the story, I don't want to direct people to this site from my post.

  4.
The Sony A65 does not have memory recall function.
But the a77 has 3 presets.
Try setting a one of the 3 memory recall settings with the Steadyshot being off and see if it saves.
I am not sure how the memory recall functions work on the A77, but if it's like the A700 then you just press a button to flick between the 3.
The option to turn it off is in the menu, it's not complicated or that time consuming I don't think it is much of an issue once you get used to it, unless you are taking your camera on and off the tripod all the time.
All that said it takes me 4 seconds to go into the menu second tab and toggle it off or on.

  5.
It's the same with the A65, it's sort of annoying, but when I tend to use a tripod it stays on the tripod for a while so I am not switching it on and off too often.

  6.
I think it's foolish for Sony to keep making OLED viewfinders that are less than the A65/A77/A99
I am more than happy with the EVF on my A65, but anything lesser I would not be.
The camera maybe a step up for anyone not using the A65/A77/A99 models. but I want to see a more meaty camera for us A65/A77/A99 users, not another humbug intermediate model.

  7.
No, most flashes, even third party will trigger because of the flash or infra red in the camera, and one could even setup remote triggers with Flashes.
The advantage the Sony flashes have of course, is they are a specifically setup for all the bells and whistles, ratio controls, more accurate auto metering.
Most off camera flashes will trigger simply when they see another flash go off. So in reality you can just set up different flash ratio's on just about all flash guns, no matter what brand.
8.
I just been looking into those Eye-fi memory cards.
Seems to work fine with A65, but not with the A700. That's fine since I mainly use the A65 as my main camera.
Seems to work out to about $80 for a 8gb card.

  9.
Thanks,
Looks like it cannot be done with the A65 which is a shame. But appears will work with A700.
Sometimes I don't get how an old camera like the KM 7D and A700 can have Pro features, but you get something newer like the A65 and you don't even get something as simple as a flash PC socket. Let alone tethering features, which is the same for the A77.
It honestly sometimes makes me think I should of went with Canon or Nikon years ago just so I can do some of the things which come standard on many of their models.

  10.
I am wondering if anyone knows how you take an image and have it import directly to say a laptop for instant reviewing and/or editing.
As some of you may know I have a Sony A700 and Sony A65.
I want to do more still life. And would love to be able to take the image and have it imported onto my laptop for instance.
I have seen camera's connected via cable, so I assume this would be the most cheap and easiest way.
Can it be done with the camera's I use? What would I need? and can programs like Lightroom or ACDsee Pro do it?

  11.
Aww, I went to message her and she had closed her account.
People need to chill a bit. The Sony/Minolta forum needs more people. Stop driving away newbies who don't fully understand their camera, photography in general Or forum etiquette.

  12.
There is no issue with the two posts.
They are two different questions, one is about blurring the background and doing it with the Nex camera, (thus posted in the Sony forums). And another is about the technique of blurring the background when not doing macro shots but normal shots. (posted in the beginner section.) because she understood to some degree how to blur the background, but not fully.
Keep posting, if you have beginner questions then sure post it in that section. Any Sony specific question post it here. There are also plenty of people who post here who use that type of camera, who are members, and I am sure you can privately contact them through the members contact details for specific help.
You can always contact myself.
Happy shooting

  13.
I never used the software but I have just downloaded it and installed it.
Lens Distortion works within the software on my
A700, A65 with the following lenses
KM 28-75 2.8,
Sony SAM 35mm 1.8

Does not work with A700 or A65 with
KM 28-100 F3.5-5.6,
Minolta 50mm
So yeah, looks like it's the lens.

  14.
I believe the camera (A580) is correcting this by a setting, and since it does, when you try to convert it using the software it won't be available, so go into your settings and disable Lens Comp - for shading, Chro. Aber. and Distortion.
Not sure if it solves your problem, but try it anyway.
"Like the NEX 5N and the SLT-A65 the Alpha SLT-A77 comes with optional in-camera optical corrections. Sony calls these tools 'lens compensation' and lens compensation comes in three flavors - 'shading', 'chromatic aberration' and 'distortion'. When these functions are activated (separately or en-masse) in the setup menu, the camera will attempt to reduce the respective effects based on Sony's profiles of current lenses. Sony has indicated that the number of profiles that the camera holds will be expanded via firmware updates as the system expands.

Even though CA and Distortion compensation will be applied to the JPEG file when shooting in raw+JPEG, the raw file will remain uncompensated. The story is slightly different for Shading compensation which is not only applied to the JPEG but also the raw file. In practice this means that, if the function is activated, Shading compensation will be applied to your output images when converting raw files in Adobe Camera Raw, Sony's IDC or any other raw converter.

1.02 for NEX users, check your drivers, updated for many models also released in the past few days.
16.
In the past month I have missed out on 4 Beercan bidding wars on ebay. They all went for more than I was willing to spent, the 'buy it now' ones on ebay are either missing caps or Hoods, or are not in great condition, or are selling for too much. So I hang around for the Auctions that start off low and hopefully I will get one cheap in the future.
I did though pick up a 'as new' Sony 18-55 kit lens for $40 off ebay 2 days ago. For that price I thought why not.

  17.
Also, a few years ago, I went out with my mate who had a Canon 5d MkII with some $1600 28 to whatever 2.8 lens. I was using my Sony A700 with a Konica Minolta 28-100 kit zoom lens that came with my Konica Minolta 7D years before.
We took shots of many of the same things. Once we had downloaded the images over the week and did some basic editing, we took them to work and had some colleagues look at the two sets and without them knowing who took which set, asked them who they liked the better.
All went with mine.
Remember, it does not matter how great the gear is, it's the person behind it. Have you ever seen a good photographer say he cannot take great shot with a certain lens.
If you have tell, me because I have yet to find one who has.
Bottom line, unless your pixel peeping, get a good condition lens that suits your needs if the price is right.
And have fun.

  18.
Kit Lenses are not all bad. I refer to this site very often
http://kurtmunger.com/lens_reviews_id21.html
Some of the kit lenses and more than good enough. Modern technology does some very good things for optics.
I bought some of those dirt cheap Sony SAM prime lenses 35mm, 50mm, even though I had those well build minolta ones from years ago. Suffice to say those plastic fantastic lenses are tack sharp.
Although I use my 28-70 G lens on my A65, that 35mm Sony SAM lens sits on my A700 nearly all the time, and I have taken some superb shots.
Cheap and not built like a tank does not mean bad.
Remember most reviews are done to the pixel peeping level.
