1.
OK, I am on the brink of making the biggest investment in a lens ever. If I get this lens it will be my second most expensive purchase of camera gear. After the A99 which in itself was a massive decision.
The reason I am looking to get this lens is because I have been getting more and more work doing social and corporate and sporting functions, so far I have been using my KM 28-75 2.8, my Minolta 50 and 28mm lenses which has given some great results.
I have read all the reviews and also watched all the youtube video's I can. Has anyone here had some hands on experience with this lens, does the image quality blow you away like the reviews seem to suggest.
After all this will be a $2100 Aussie dollar investment for me. I am willing to do it in the next months or so, but it's a massive chunk of change to buy it.
I have seen people compare it to the Tamron and Sigma equivalents, but they only talk about buying those because of the way cheaper cost, but none seem to suggest the quality is better.
Am I missing a jewel in the crown of some other lens that is just as epic and awesome as the 24-70mm F/2.8 SSM Carl Zeiss

  2. These camera's are targeted at the rich people, it's for the people who like fast cars and women. And 10k is coffee money

to them. They must sell these over priced luxury items otherwise they would not keep doing it.

If I had money to burn, sure I would buy it, it's a Sony, in a fine precision body, and will fit my lenses I already have. And

it's a legendary brand like Leica.

But alas I am not rich, nor do I have anywhere near that money to blow on this camera.

  3.
Well all time greatest for me at least :)
I was just looking at my past 30 years of using Minolta/Konica Minolta/Sony gear.
I decided I will rank my worst to greatest camera's (I will limit it to my digital age, even though I did have SLR's Minolta 7xi camera's etc.)
The countdown Begins with relative links for those interested.
5. Konica Minolta 7D - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/konicaminolta7d
Indeed, the 7D, even though nothing really beats the A99 for image quality, the Konica Minolta 7D wins on it's old school retro looks and feel, it is a tank, a beast, a camera to make love too. Holding a 7D, feels like you are holding photography itself.
If they stuck A99 technology into the KM 7D body, well I would have no use for any other camera EVER.

  4. Not sure about other brand lenses, never been my thing. As for the macro, it all depends on condition. I don't have one,

but you should check out Keh.com they have good prices, so anything below what they list is a good price. I bought my

lenses in Ex condition which is like their 4th best, and honestly they looked brand new.

  5.
Congrats on the A99.
It's much better than the A900 so you got yourself a better camera in any case.
You can use all Minolta glass. I did though have issues with an xi series lens which had the motorized zoom built into the lens. I currently use a Minolta 28mm and 50mm lenses as my primes and they are great.
Here is my post with the Minolta 28mm 2.8 and Sony A99 (my first pics taken)
http://photo.net/sony-minolta-slr-system-forum/00c5pv
Yes, crop lenses do work on the camera without issue, BUT they will also be about half the MP resolution due to the fact the lens is crop, thus the image gets cropped. (the camera handles this automatically) I would not invest money in expensive crop lenses for any Sony Full frame.
That is why I love the fact that there are many great places to pick up Minolta glass, like www.keh.com (where I got my 28mm and 50mm Minolta Lenses.) for next to nothing.
I have the grip, it's a great grip, but I have mixed emotions about using it. The great thing is you don't have to remove the camera body battery, you can just flip the little rubber seal on the bottom of the camera that houses the connector for the grip and screw it on. Which means you can put it on and off within seconds without having to fiddle around with latches and camera body Batteries being removed.
My camera bag is massive, but with my 28-75 2.8 lens on there with grip, it does not fit in my bag, so I have to have it off when in the bag. I don't regret buying it at all. Just I wish my bag fitted it better when on the body.
Strength and weakness's are in the eye of the reviewer. Some people have issues with things like back focus, but for me this is a lens issue and not camera body issue per say.
Maybe best to look at the review at dpreview.com they do a pretty good job.
I have yet to have any issues, and the camera for me handles situations the best yet from all my other camera's I have used.

  6.
The RX 100 can rival a DSLR. But it comes down to who is holding the camera and taking the pictures.
Sure in some cases it will not rival a DSLR, but then certain DSLR cannot match other DSLR's.
A good photographer can take good pictures with most things. A bad photographer will still take bad pictures holding a $6000 DSLR and lens.

  7.
Women and their hang bags.
Ops, but wait these are mine. I have added another camera bag to my collection, I recently gave two away to my brother. This is what I have remaining.

I NEED MORE
The middle Green one so far is my crowning glory and what I use now. I bought it last week off Ebay for $30. It was $15 for the bag with $15 postage (Back in it's day the thing retailed for $350) There was a poor picture on ebay and the item description was 'large camera backpack', and that was it, no wonder after 7 days, no bids. So I placed a bid in the last 2 minutes. It turned out to be a brand new Domke Outpack with tags. Was sitting in someone cupboard for years unused, I knew I scored a super bargain. Thanks to the seller for putting up a poor picture and little to no details on the item. Before that I was using the crumpler for light travel and the Lowepro compu trekker for anything else. The large one on the left was a fancier backpack, massive bag, could hold three camera bodies and lenses, and tripod, etc. But now retired due to the wonderful Domke. Most of the bags are just eye candy for myself right now.
Burp.......... Damn Bag G.A.S
