  1. This bunny head was stuck in a table. You decide if it's creepy. :) Canon EOS Rebel SLR, Kodak Tmax 100 film
  2. Nobody likes it. That wasn't the point of the redesign - to make existing members happy. It is designed to bring in fresh money. They're betting that the influx of new money and users will make up for (and then vastly exceed) the exodus of old timers. We'll see how that plays out. Photography is in crisis mode nowadays with all the cell phone users out there.
  3. Humans are primarily visual animals, and as such, it's undeniable that the first twinges of sexual attraction are also visual. We live in a society where nudity is mostly forbidden, so that which remains hidden is a mystery and inflames our curiosity. Sometimes a nude is erotic. That's ok. Sometimes a nude is artful, and that is ok as well. Sometimes it's the playful province of youth, and that too is ok. Nudity is not and never will be evil. It's human society which makes it taboo. I'm reading Sally Mann's book "Hold Still" and it's stunning, the way societal influences affected her children once they were told that they were naked. It's the garden of Eden all over again. It shouldn't surprise nor disgust anyone that human beings are human beings that - act like human beings. You may as well fault a clock for keeping time.
  4. Pups at play at the dog park. Nikon D7000
  5. While I don't really post for ratings, when I do, numbers mean nothing to me. I highly value even a few words that someone takes the time to write. The one thing none of us have an infinite supply of is time, so when someone takes actual time to express their feelings about an image I have shared, I feel honored. Last year, my beloved golden retriever Fenris died, and my grief was shared here, in photos and remembrances. Several kind words from the community helped me through the process of heal. Not healing, because you never get over losing a friend like Fenris, but heal as in making me realize even more that time is precious. I voted "don't care" obviously. I will always get more from a word of praise or advice, plainly written, than all the radio buttons in the world.
  6. Never going to happen. The model is facebook, and in facebook-land everybody either likes or stays quiet. Unless of course a nipple, swastika, or homelss person is visible. Then the $hit starts to fly.
  7. Going up. Canon EOS Rebel, Kodak Tmax 100 film.
  8. Trying to find a decent rangefinder within my collection. Like how this shot scanned. Minolta 7S, Fuji Superia 100 film. Bagheera by the boat, spring 2017
  9. Man versus river; man versus fish. Canon EOS Rebel (yep the plastic fantastic!) with Kodak Tmax 100 film.

  12. When Fenris was alive.
  13. American Sherman tank knocked out at the Battle of the Bulge. Light-colored areas are deep gouges in the frontal armor, and the gun barrel is missing a chunk too. Located at the Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. Pentax 645NII, Arista EDU Ultra film ASA 100.
  14. Wayback? Hmm, not really, but kinda? There's this thing in the USA called "National History Day" where middle and high school students compete with presentations, plays, exhibits, websites and documentary films. My daughter competed locally and was selected to advance to the state-level competition. She did it all on her own - no coaching or directing from above, which makes her accomplishment all the more special, at least to her proud and non-interfering father. :) Here she is holding the coveted manila envelope stating she's a state qualifier! Nikon F3HP, Ilford XP2 Super film.
  15. Nice framing and an excellent pose.
  16. A statue of Dixon, Illinois', favorite son. Fujifilm X-T20

  18. Y'all know the drill. 1000px max side for the images. Submit up to three of them. My son mugging for the camera. Canon EOS Rebel SL1
  19. Not everyone was disappointed with the new snow. I finally got him to come in. Nikon D500 at ISO 51200
  20. A lot depends on your subject matter. I do shoot wildlife and birds, but not with any devotion. My main "action" subject is my dog. I bought the D500 to handle the most difficult shooting subject I have ever faced - a 60 pound dog running straight at me.Honestly, in that situation, the D500 is only slightly better than what I have used before. It's quite good when the subject is far away but as it gets closer, the D500 gives up the ghost and all the rest of the frames are blurry. I've experienced this with both D500 bodies I have owned. I use group, AF-C, with sensitivity set to "most erratic" and I get only 10-20% keepers.
  21. Here in Iowa we got our second major snowfall of the season, about 6" where I live. Enough for one Eastern Iowa resident to take her dog out for some sledding fun. Nikon D500, Tamron 150-600mm lens
