Lovely light and image, Mark.

Thanks guys I was going for a slightly futuristic look with this seemed to fit the image, it looked pretty good in B&W so it was a toss up between the two.

No problem Hamid that's what it's all about isn't it having differing views? I shot this at f2.8 as it was such a dull and overcast day which is why the wall is a little softer.

My Gran getting her hair done. ;-)

I prefer the updated version also as Stephen says it gives a little more separation, I actually processed this in a room with terrible light and didn't like it as much in the morning. Thanks also Stephanie I don't often lean towards the cold side of toning with people anyway, I found this quite foreboding and seemed to fit her slightly worried look.

Hi Hamid thanks for stopping by, I wanted a hard image for this not a soft one as he is a brick layer I wanted the image to have impact. This isn't a HDR or tonemapped, it's just a very sharp 50mm prime which I am very fond of for these types of pictures, no effects at all :)

Thanks for commenting all, Stephen it is a privilege talking to a family member of this age they have experienced such a different life. When she was pregnant with her first born my Grandad went off to War, he didn't return for 7 years. He wrote to her constantly during that time. When it cam to the toning I settled on something a little warmer than this in the end as this was a little too cold, I will try and attach the final version.
Cheers
Simon.

Thanks for commenting, Stephanie grain is something I very rarely add to a portrait, I did actually try it when I read your comment but I couldn't see what it added to the image, I have been tinkering with it a little more lately as I know it can be useful when you are printing large sizes it can add some detail and make the image look sharper.
