one of my favorites-- a gorgeous painting. looks like a lost charles burton barber study found in a musty steamer crate. wow! what a great image.

thanks so much for looking, kathleen. what was fun about this image was discovering only later that the 'bug' was visible upon enlargement. most of the detail is actually painted using my drawing tablet.

oo laa laa. very nice.

i'm a vegetarian, so nice try. ;-). actually though, the texture is alluring, good pic. a slight magenta cast to the image-- probably because of ambient light, aye? the background discs help, tho the dark spot on the distant plate is a distraction. a napkin diagonally across the foreground might soften the image.

welcome aboard keith, with a most auspicious first entry. a riveting abstract, well done.

concerned that i often oversaturate photos, i scrubbed this one right down to the canvas.

thanks for the comments you guys! my heart soared like a hawk!

a great image with (in my opinion) a couple of problems: the bright lights on the right i guess comprise a door and window, but they don't really resolve convincingly-- maybe if i knew what it all is exactly... also, the airbrushed edges i think are superfluous. on the other hand the backlit flag alone is worth the price of admission, that's the fascinating aspect with the powerlines reinforcing it. cool shot overall.

i'm just trying to contribute regularly to the critique forum....

oh yeah! what mood and composition. i thank not only you for capturing this extraordinary moment, but also the wise farmer who sculpted those beautiful trees.

aaah! i feel like a lost french fry about to be pecked. can't beat this angle. very cool layout and drama.

wow. as chance would have it, i was out a good part of the afternoon today trying to get a marsh hawk on film-- i failed utterly (i think the hawk has to take some of the blame for so deftly avoiding me). but this is just what i dreamed of capturing. in this image, the birds ability to waft ever so gently --like a butterfly-- is very well depicted. i would have looked at the possibility of cropping a bit tighter (and i'm sure you did too). bravo!

splendid design, very pleasing model, a contemplative and lyrical piece. i urge all of my photonet compatriots to peruse the amazing portfolio of this highly gifted member.

no way my 36" inch wide pano would look good on the site, so i kept the "real" height and
crunched the width to 12"-- creating this reality-based fictional vista.

nice shot, what a beautiful location. not oversaturated in my opinion, likely those trees were radiant when you shot them. a tweak of the curves would increase the tonal range though, bring down the high end to fill in the tree trunks, and boost the low end to deepen the shadows. cheers.

i think this is a great abstract. it would take just a bit of alteration, but i'd want to take the grey background and darken it almost to black. groovy idea here-- you could do a whole series of bird feather macros.
-
really nice shot-- the sepia with a touch of green is nice, the tree is irristable as a subject. good balance. i gotta tell ya though, the shape on the right is nebulous, i'm sure it's a distant hill but it could be a dead elephant or who knows what. ;-)

a digital alteration (feather detail and background are "painted")
based on an image taken at mathias seal island in maine/new brunswick.

condolences to hugh-- lots of us DO know intimately your sense of loss for an animal friend... sigh.
anyway, cathy, yes, gorgeous, warm shot. kinda makes a humorous statement about camouflage in nature.
