  1. The 37mm is a rectangular fish eye lens with an angle of view of 180.If you are worried about distortion, the fish eye is definitely not the way to go. The 50mm would be a better choice for tradition landscapes, you do have to make sure your horizontal lines are level though, there is some distortion with the 50mm.
  2. He gave his opinion on what the image stirred up when he saw it. Images can do that, especially ones that deal with what many consider taboo. Its par for the course. Why didn't you ask him what his opinion about the technical aspects of the image were?

If you posted an image of a naked woman being savagely beaten by a group of men, that was near technically perfect, do you really expect that the only comments you would receive would be about the technical aspects of the image?

  3. The 70mm would be a smaller negative, it is a back that takes 70mm film, which is very hard to find. You can get a polariod back for it, but polariod is ending film production.

I would stick with the 90mm for now, from your use of the camera you will quickly find out what lens you want next, either wider or longer.

As far as 120/220 film, do you plan on shooting color or b&w?

  4. "My G9 has a built-in ND (non-grad) function for slowing down exposures when desired."

Its not a built in function, its an actual filter the slides into the optical path.

  5. Nicad battery "memory" is really a myth.True memory only happens in sintered plate NiCd cells , and it only occurs when the battery is precisely discharge to exactly the same level over and over again, and recharge it without any overcharge. Trickle chargers always overcharge if you leave them long enough, and most consumer chargers also slightly overcharge, because the slight voltage drop that is used to pick the end of the charge cycle. So your charger will cure the "memory" effect anyway.

Batteries don't last forever. The older are, the less capacity they have.

  6. The purple is the anti-halide dye. If you was longer, or just expose the dry negatives to sunlight it will fade away. Even if you don't it will not affect printing. If you prewash you will see that when you pure out the the prewash it will have the same purple color.
  7. The 81a is the standard description for the warming filter you need. the 81 series goes from 81 to 81ef, with ef being the strongest. The nikon filter you found is a warming filter.
  8. Panf+ never really looses its tint, you can exposed the negs to sun light and it will fad a bit, but it won't affect enlargement so i don't bother. 4.5 min is a bit on the short side, which ilford warns against. i normally use the 1+14 dilution for 5.5-6 minutes, depending on the subject shot.
