I like simple images. For this one I would like to the see the trees off center. My eyes lead up the hill to the trees and stop. If they were left or right in the image my eyes would travel over the whole scene not just the middle. A little cropping could make it work. Good luck. Chris

The walkway really makes this work well. My eyes lead right to the lighthouse and the b&w gives the proper feeling to this capture. Chris

Very good capture! The sticks in the water really lead you thru the shot making it very pleasant. Chris

If this was forgotten? Wow! Now where could I find another one like this! Great capture! Chris

The feeling jumps right out of the image! Great job! 7/7 Chris

Very nice- i really like how the sky colors play off the reflecting light on the snow to match the sky again. Looks even better larger! Congratulations! Chris

Sarah, I hope you saw my comments on the'pump' photo. This one really works well- much more sharp in terms overall image quality. The textures in the wood really set the image. Very Good! Chris

Sarah, I am a sucker for these types of photo opportunities too. I think this image needs to a lot sharper. Was it windy? May your depth of field was wrong? I would like to see the writing on the pump more clearly since I think that is the focal point. Only you know but I think the overall composition is great. B&W may work better than Sepia toned for this one. Justy ideas for you to consider- your opinions is the one with the most energy. Chris

Hans- I love the rich colors! I hgave been reading a lot concerning HDR photo processing- any help with software selection? I currently have CS3 but notice many comments that it does not do enough tone mapping or HDR Processing. Any help would be great as to what you have found helpful or useful. Again great capture. It looks like you found another keeper! Great capture. It is all about the light and the timing- you find it in the right combination here. Keep getting up early! Chris

I saw the 4 rating for the image and I wanted to offer some ideas. The composition is okay but some improvements I think that could be made are- The middle ground is very bright and has some color whereas the mountains in the background kind of look washedout. Solution #1 would be to crop out the mountains and let the top of the image be the bright landscape across the water with good reflections in the water. Solution #2 could be to double process the image in Photoshop like program and then combine the 2. The main point of one of the processes is to improve the background mountains. Just 2 ideas to help you consider improving your capture. Also crop the bottom a little to remove that blurry bush. Chris

I think the low ratings are coming in due to the barn & silos in the background which confuses the focal point of the covered bridge. You eye is drawn to the silos due to the angle of the bridge which leads you in that direction. A fine travel snapshot from the D40 but really nothing more. A polarizer could have helped that sky near the silos too. I hope this helps. Chris

Your newt looks over exposed. Lots of reflective light here- notice how the skin lacks texture. Keep trying! Chris

I am sure you are pleased with how tack sharp this image came out of the D3 and the 300mm lens. Very nice! Chris

Another vote for the original post. I too feel it is busy and has at least 3 possible focal points. Who says you need just one? If this was a photography class and the theme was lines- this is a great representation of lines. The only suggestion from me is to crop the top as to hide the buildings in the distance beyond the trees. The roof (middle right) looks slightly over exposed- may try and clean that up. I hope this adds to your internal discussion of what you think of the image. Chris

I love the feeling from this image. You captured the moment very well. Cold and isolated this pond seems to be. The water is screaming 'cold'. 6/6 Chris

Where have all the farmers gone? Nice capture here. I have been on a similar theme with old barns and houses on old farms. The character of the buildings really works well for photography. Very Nice! Chris

Jim McConnell has taken many great shots of this iconic mill along
the Blue Ridge Parkway. His recent post made me search deep into my
files for something more from my visits to the Mill. For Jim who by
his postings raised the bar! Thanks Jim! Chris

Sometimes it is all about where you put the camera. For this image you placed it perfectly. Great capture. Thanks for posting it! Chris

Very interesting image...If there was some way clone out the oil platforms I feel it may work a little bit better. The oil platforms are a distraction on the horizon. My focus point is the lines and the colors- the shape of the oil platforms distacts me from that. Just my perspective, very interesting image.
