I was wondering if this worked or not. while I like the fact that the

train leads the viewer through the photo, I think that the train may

not stand out enough as the focal point. what do you think? I would

really like some comments.

this is a busy photo, so much so it it hard to tell what the subject is. i can see 2-3 different shots just with cropping. the buildings in the forground take away from the shot, also the train blends into the buildings behind. this looks over exposed. keep shooting even if you don't make a living at photograph.

I think I like the complexity of the photo. the fact that the viewer has to really look around it to see what's going on but then I run into the problem that people don't want to do that. they want to see the point and go on to the next one.

however, that could just make me a lazy photographer, because I'm not taking the time to deliver a single point. i just want to get them all out there and let the viewer figure it out for themselves.

thanks for your comment.

I like the original photo better. To me the empty tracks running through the original is the focal point and works well...

Another vote for the original post. I too feel it is busy and has at least 3 possible focal points. Who says you need just one? If this was a photography class and the theme was lines- this is a great representation of lines. The only suggestion from me is to crop the top as to hide the buildings in the distance beyond the trees. The roof (middle right) looks slightly over exposed- may try and clean that up. I hope this adds to your internal discussion of what you think of the image. Chris

thank you for all of the immensely helpful comments. Having not had a photography class, I'm often just going off of what looks nice, and when you're capturing photos, it's easy to think all of yours are either wonderful or terrible. Your experience in seeing different crops has helped a lot not just with this photo, but with what I'm going to look for in my photography in the future.

oh, and i edited out the building beyond the trees and chris suggested (thanks), and since i've had multiple commments about the roof, i tried to clear out some of it's over-exposed-ness (or whatever the correct term is).

I like this the way it is right now. I find the boxes of the train do lead through the scene. They have a nice rhythm to them and a sense of humor, even. The fact that the boxes are the only thing in the shot with any saturation helps this photo make sense. Its a good natured photo and I like the panoramic composition.
