    Mabry Mill

          2
The most popular photographed area along the Blue Ridge Parkway. How can I make this different or convery something new? That is the challenge with an icon like Mabry Mill. I have photographed Mabry Mill many times & know the area well. My only comment is the grass on the bottom portion should be all in or all out. What do I mean- the edge of the pond could have provided a nice frame for the shot rather than a distraction since it is only in the bottom right & left corners. The ducks are great but seem to be over exposed. The drought in NC & VA have really limited the brillant fall colors which usually are present; now the dull colors tend to blend into the gray weathered wood of Mabry Mill. For a good comparision photo see Jim Mc Connell's photo of Mabry Mill posted here on photo.net. Search by Jim's name.
  1. Very good considering this photo is everywhere in the southeast. Exposure is perfect for this foggy morning. I went back to look at mine from last month and the wood is now all gray. What a great place to photograph and so close to us in the triad!

I am not sure what your focus is- blue berries or the shape of the vine. Also it appears that there has been too much saturation in the blue to now appear fake. Is the photo out of focus before the texturing or out of focus at time of capture? If you are going for more artistic- go all the way with the manipulation.

Noise is present in the sky especially along with Keystoning of the lighthouse. Good exposure of rocks and white lighthouse...I have visited Cape Nedick Light in early spring, I think the composition could have been improved by featuring the water between shore and thelighthouse since this is an island. Really just my opinion. I shot several shots at low tide along the rocks below the parking lot somewhat to the right. It appears from the noise you cropped and enlarged so of this out.
