This is a great example of seeing rather than taking a snapshot. I have taken many similar images and people always say they never saw that. Great job!

    Towers of Ice

Another selection from my ice theme experiments here in NC. Please

note that this is a very opportunistic thing due to our usual warmer

    winters. Comments welcomed. Thanks!

    Ice Teeth

I saw this and thought of teeth- do you? I have been working on ice

formations and trying to capture the feeling of seeing these formations.

Comments and suggestions for improvement welcomed. Thanks!

What really makes this image for me is the splash of color in the sky. Sure it would have been easy to convert to B&W- but the stark gray/blue of the water and the darker sky draws my eye to the brighter blues of the sky where no clouds are. Very nice and good camera work!

I simply love it! The lines along with the texture in the silo, barn, tires, etc...all come together to make a wonderful image here. This is really a smart image- great work!
  1. I think the previous comment said it all--- 'familiar'...I have seen this similar composition before. It is a challenge to visit great photo locations, such as this, & come away with great photos. Technically is this a fine image but the composition is normal. I was just to the northern Outer Banks two weeks ago and found myself asking the same question before I pushed the shutter- is this a unique image? Hopefully we all see differently and we can share that uniqueness thru this place- photo.net. Good luck and keep posting.

  2. I did not look at your other post but here are some suggestions: Look at other images on here that peek your interest & likely you will find that the reason for your interest is the light. By this we mean the time of day along with the light coming from the sun makes the image special. This is captured on an overcast day with lots of grey sky and little contrast. In other words- way to much light on the subject.

On composition, the rocks in the foreground need to be in focus to be included. They way it is captured here they are blurry and more of a barrier to the main subject.

Tips for improvement: Take more photos and you will improve, take more photos and different times of the day and see what works.

    Good luck!

  3. What neat place! I loved visiting here and you can capture so many different images on this wide falls. The color from the evening light really sets this apart from other images- very nice! The long exposure adds to the soft warm amber light as well- good technique!

  4. First, I really like the image! Now for the but part...and it is just a consideration. Play around with flipping the image in photoshop. We see things visually from left to right and generally near to far. Your image is opposite of that. Very easy to do in photoshop and see what you think. My guess is that it may be even stronger in composition once you see it. Good luck!
  5. I found this inside a large landscape image that turned out to be very

busy. I cropped out the reflection from the trees into the lake and then

re-sized it. What do you think as an abstract taken from a larger scene.

Comments welcome and please leave them if you choose to rate-- it

    helps. Thanks

  6. This was taken this morning after a 2 hour wait for heavy rain to pass

through the area. From Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina

where we have been experiencing a severe drought for the last 2 years.

Somehow the colors of nature still make themselves known. Comments

    appreciated! Thanks! Chris

Gordon, These types of shots cause all kinds of issues for photographers. My eye is immediately draw to the overexposed area above the waterfall. There are 2 choices: use a ND filter or crop it out. A 3rd but somewhat complicated solution would be shot 2 images: expose 1 for the waterfall and the rocks & the 2nd for the sky area and then combine in Photoshop. A minor suggestion is to zoom in tigher or crop the foreground a little too. Clean up the corner on the lower right too. Good composition and just a little tweak for difficult conditions. Chris

Another vote for removing some sky- not sure it tells the story along with the other objects. The low angle was a very good choice, but it looks like one big pile of stuff. Great exposure here with your camera. I hope this helps. Chris
  7. Thanks for allowing us another opportunity. It is very easy to see you know how to handle your equipment and convey the feeling you had in being there. As for the ratings- remember we all suffer the same fate if we choose to post in the critique forum. I find the comments left, far more useful to me than the ratings. The invisable '3' rater is a major flaw here but trust yourself more than those folks. I like this image a lot- very nice. Chris
  8. This is a 2nd version of an earlier post. Worked a little more in CS3

Curves to increase the contrast. Please tell me what you think of this

barn in the high country of NC. Thanks for your feedback! Chris
