  1. ...well, my english is not so good...I did not want to compare directly Leica prices vs Nikon's...just believe there is no reason for Nikon Z cameras to be as expensive as they are...here in Europa..., at least in my country where Z6 body only will be $3000 !
  2. Somehow, I feel the same about Z bodies and Nikon lenses...
  3. But we were younger and have all the time in the world :-)
  4. Nikon D4s+ Tamron 15-35/2,8, hand held at 1/13s, F3,5 ISO6400
  5. Indeed a bad design...I have version 1 hood mounted on my 70-200/2,8G II...
  6. ..Readig this I have to thank God for living in Nikon Paradise , where D850 was never out of stock and Nikon service repair a lens in 24h (the courier took my 70-200 on thursday and bring it back on monday - they must do the repair on friday) . I wish you best of luck...
  7. ...it was about the new Fuji XT3... And another bad news (sort of) came from Joe McNally Photography :"The Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 can't AF at all" (with Z7). I wonder about Sigma...
  8. ...sorry , I did not provide the link to original Marsek van Oosten post : Nikon Z7 Field Report - Squiver ...BTW, is a great review/field report on the Z7 !
  9. Z7's EVF... Some informations concerning Z 7's EVF ,from "Nikon Z7 field report by Marsek van Oosten , it really makes me wonder if Nikon understand how should a mirrorless EFV function : M.O. said :"Several times I found myself being fooled by the brightness of the EVF, tricking me into thinking that I shot a nice and bright image with tons of shadow detail, whereas in reality the image was actually horribly underexposed. While it is true that one look at the histogram would tell me this, in the heat of the moment that sometimes did not compute. An overly dark scene like the one above will easily look well exposed in the EVF, but later turn out to be way too dark. There have been moments where I was looking at the image in the viewfinder and then to the histogram next to it, and realized those did not seem to belong together - the image looked so much brighter than what it should look like according to the histogram. At first, I started to change the brightness level of the EVF to match what I was seeing, but that didn't prove to be a definitive solution either. I ended up more or less ignoring the brightness level of the image in the EVF and only use it for composition, light direction, focus, depth of field, and instead relying on the histogram for exposure. Overall, I would say the default setting of the EVF is too bright" ??? what ???, I don't understand . On my Fuji XT2 what I see (through EVF) is what I get (no difference between EVF and final picture) and I didn't expect otherwise. What do you think ?
  10. LoCA...interesting things I never thought about that way, anyway not related to focus mechanism. Acording to my knowlege ED glass combined with multicoating and aspherical lenses minimizes the effects of residual chromatic aberratons gathering up all of these colour wavelenghts/lights to a point, focal plane in this case.
  11. In Eastern Europe it's usually pronounced Neekon...
  12. People here seem to concentrate on bodies rather than glass...however has somebody noticed that the NanoCoating is absent on Z or "S" line of lenses (even on 58/0.95) !? I wonder from where the letter "S" is comming ??? (maybee : Special, Super, Sealed, Small or Simple :-) ). And the absence of second card slot ... just imagine nowadays shooting an important wedding with no backup...is like Russian roulette. Yesterdy one of my ExtremPro 32Gb SD card suddenly and totally unexpected died , I have 3 64Gb XQD cards for my D4s and have no problems so far....but... All I'm saying is simply this : For that amount of money Nikon should give us a 100% professional mirorless system, or maybe they imagine ordinary people will give up their 1000$ phones and stay in line to buy "Z" cameras.
  13. Gary, that was my initial thought...,but I feel that Nikon is twisting my arm, somehow. I am in a desperate need of a very good mirrorless , preferable Nikon, in order to be able to use my entire F mount pro lenses collection . The mirrorless advantages are obvious to me since I use weekly a XT2+50-140/2,8 at different events, but only in well light scenes due to AF limitations And the new camera and the lens ...it does look like another P1000...I have doubts about Nikon intention to provide this mirrorless and Z lenses for professionals. I hope that I'm wrong .
  14. "To succeed, does it have to be able to accept Nikon FX G and E lenses (via an adapter)?" ...it should be kept the F mount bayonet, have excellent low light capabilities and the best AF in the market. Instead they give us a new Z mount and we have to sell an arm and a leg to buy a new line of lenses... ...the chances for me to buy a Nikon mirrorless are down to 66% :-)
  15. My D3 shutter died at 104K...(camera out of warranty) I remember this was after a photo shooting with lots of 1/8000 shutter actuation. Beeing a NPS member I only have to pay the shutter assembly and not the workmanship (aprox 200euro at the time).
  16. I love Fuji and especially their "Kayzen" policy (meaning frequent free firmware updates- not the case at Nikon) but my Nikon gear is a machine that performs dependably under heavy use, being my main workhorse. "...folks that have had repair delays" I live in Romania and we have an excellent NPS service here, with fast repairs and periodical free gifts for members (magazines, camera straps, bags, hats and winter jackets, all with NPS logo) Last time I send my 70-200 for repair (IS unit) they receive'it on friday and I get the lens repaired three days later , on monday (via UPS) !!! We also benefit from Nikon experiment called "Yellowstore" : first Nikon owned stores , to sale exclusive Nikon equipment. My only reason of complain is the absence of Nikon professional mirrorless cameras.
  17. Thank you ilkka and Shun for your help . There is probably something wrong with this lens ...I have the dock but doesn't seem to help now , in real world (at least in my case). ..Or maybe it have something to do with the firmware update...
  18. "Dieter Schaefer : If I was still using DX lenses, I would get the 18-35/1.8 and 50-100/1.8 Sigma" This could be/should be another thread but reading the above statement I remenber my Sigma 35/1,4 and the problems I having with this lens. It all begin in april (...if I remember well...) after the D4s firmware upgrade . Since then almost half of the pictures taken with this combo are out of focus (mainly in low light). I'll keep forgeting this, and today while performing a paid Christmas shooting it happened again. I wonder if someone encountered a similar problem (this lens beeing the only Sigma I own) ?
  19. "I would not be surprised at all if other D500 owners took the same path as I did towards buying DX lenses for casual use". Yes I did..with one small difference : not for D500 but for Fuji X-t2. And why should I didn't do it ? For the price of D850 body ($ 4455 in my country) I bought myself an entire wonderful Fuji system : Xt2 body+50-140/2,8+16/1,4+50/2+23/1,4 and regain the joy of taking pictures. And make no mistake : the Fujinon lenses are at least equal to Nikon lenses and the DX sensor present in X-T2 never cease to amaze me. Below are two identical pictures taken with D4s and Xt2 at ISO 6400 : (notice the AutoWB)
  20. Macro pictures taken with X-T2 + 50mm/F2 (crop applied) :
  21. Well...in my part of the world (Europe) D850 was never out of stock or even limited stock :-) Maybe the +1100 $ price difference would be the reason !?
  22. On the behalf of the old version (G) : I use the same lens for almost 10 years , with more than one million pictures taken , and zero problems . I doubt the VR in the new version will last so long. I'm maybe unlucky, but I return my "E" version due to lack of sharpness and size/weight unpleasant personal feeling ; and now, reading above comments, I think that I should give'it another try !? The field curvature at 24mm was never been a problem for me, but barrel distorsion from 24mm to 35 mm , it was. The sharpness at F2,8 is amazing with just enough depth of field , focus fast and precise but the zoom ring rotation was not so smooth as the one from "E" version or 70-200 F2,8/F4 zooms. Never had the chance to observe the other optical differences between the "G" and "E" versions but I'm sure Ilkka is right...
  23. Thanks Shun. I thought D810 was better at low ISO. Obviously is not . "Most likely Nikon is using different firmware on their top-of-the-line D5 or the strong battery on the D5 is making a difference" As far as can I remember (from min 20 years ago) it was always the same. And it was a Canon lineup who make me jump to this conclusion : only top pro cameras (both Canon and Nikon) deliver the best AF, best auto exposure and best flash exposure algorithm , noticeable better than the rest of the lineup.
