    Tree Farm

The colours are a bit too sat and too green/yellow. It's a very attractive corridor but has two exit points - the obvious one at the bottom which needs a focal and, because it's so bright, up top - where the eye can be dragged out before seeing the low point. Really nice detail in the trees.

Toning was a good choice for this as it emphasises the tesxture and line of the clouds as wellas the form of the buildings - turning an 'ordinary' shot into a more interesting one. I like the way the poles stand out from the background and the vertical shapes stand against the sky. I would have liked to see a vertical version also as I don't think it is best in horizontal.

So far I have given written critiques on 720 photos - an opinion not

just a number. Be selfish: improve your photography by analysing mine :-)

A slight repositioning would have done it - the dappling on the clothes can be very attractive and add some mood if controlled will - but across the face/eyes it's distracting normally.
  1. Agree with Stephane here. Normally, having f/g, m/g and background defines depth and draws the eye into the photo. Another great statement in a photo is isolation - making the subject stand out from its background - often you find an isolated tree in a field etc, with the surroundings 'bland' and the subject textured/interesting - or in this case an island with trees. Cropping f/g until balance is achieved leads back to a horizontal frame - there are nice reflections and opportuinites for offset, isolation from the background is provided by mist. The island is not then optimally placed, ... Love the calmness of the water and the blueness.
  2. It's a nice attractive sunrise but i think there is scope for improvement in the foreground as the sand isn't offering much. The jagged rocks look interesting and maybe not enough emphasis is made of the misty effect if that is to be a feature. Lower, closer to rocks, with foreground lines would be another option.
  3. I do that double processing thing - and it's cheating only if you accept the artifical 5-6 stop limitations in a jpeg - the info is there in the raw so teasing it out can't be a bad thing. You have quite some convergence in the fence posts and a little Ctrl-T (Transform) may be interesting.

Fury may not be the right title but the wispy effect is very attractive - cotton sea. The foreground detail in shadow us good. Not sure you need sky at all.
  4. A nice day and spot, especially good to have retained some foreground detail. On my screen there are 'unnatural' looking straight lines above the clouds. These may be beams but look quite abrupt?

Great use of lines at a good time of day. A definite foreground interest 'would be nice' although the gold on the rocks is attractive. The GND does well to hold dow the sky but of course the headland loses detail.

Wow, it's really good to be taking advantage of the strange conditions to create something different. This does look like PS colour toning but if it truly is the effect of the fires then it's incredible. Nice action in the waves and vignette.

Beautiful subject, nice framing/foreground idea but not enough story in depth to make it one you'd hang on the wall. The f/g trees should be separated from the b/g trees and the horizontal lines may work better as lead-in diagonals. Poor ducks, I wonder if their webbing freezes.
