  1. What a great shot! The colors are terrific! I love how they are so deeply saturated and contrasted--you really got the perfect light and exposed this wonderfully. I would like to see what the picture would look like with the fence heading more towards the midline. I love the fenceposts but guess I would like to see a bit more of them to give the picture more DOF and the appearance that the posts are heading off to infinity. But, that is just an idea--it may work but may not. This picture is spectacular as it is--great work!

What a beautiful scene! I was going through photos by average rating and was like "what is this one doing at the end?!?!" The only criticism I would have is that the background on the left is a little washed out and overexposed (ie-the portions between the trees). That is all though! I love this shot--don't be discouraged by rankings that are average and below average, there are many people like myself who feel this is anything but an "average" shot! I think there is room for improvement, but it is very well done!

Wow...what spectacular colors! Did you consider showing a tad bit more of that beautiful blue sky and those cotton-white clouds? I think a very slight bit more would add to the color scheme and enhance this image but the bottom 2/3s of this shot could stand alone as a spectacular shot! Terrific job with the lighting--I don't think it could be any better to illuminate the deep colors and beautiful contrast of the plants/trees. A very good job--even though I think you are missing out by not including the spectacular clouds and sky you still get 7s from me!

  2. The upper left corner of this shot could not be any better--you could put that in a photography book! I like the composition with the boat in the lower right but it's kind of dark--think you could lighten that portion up in PS? The top half of this picture is spectacular but I think the bottom half could use some lightening to complement it better. Overall this is a great shot though! I can't say enough about how beautiful that sky is--you did a superb job of capturing it!

This is a great shot! I love the gold of the foreground. I think the top level of clouds takes away from the shot a bit--they look boring compared to the much white, more well defined level below. Perhaps you could have zoomed in a bit. A polarizing filter could potentially bring them to life a bit more as well. Overall though, this is a great composition. The snow covered mountains are beautiful and superbly done! Great work!
  3. Terrific exposure! I love the sky--the snow white clouds and dark blue portion contrast well. To be honest, I might like to see a bit more of it! I think the power lines take away from the shot but I can't complain because I run into the same problem so often. They don't ruin it, but I know personally I hate having them in my photos. I think you could produce a different shot with more sky that would be just as pleasing if not more. BUT, overall, this is a terrific composition and a well exposed B&W. The colors and texture of the trees, buildings, sky, and clouds contrast remarkably well and make a wonderful shot!

This is an outstanding photo! I admit I love lighthouse photos and the colors on this one are great for pictures! I like the red and black of the lighthouse, especially against the blue sky! I think another day would have made a slightly better shot because the clouds would have been a bit more "puffy." I love the contrast of the red lighthouse against the blue sky--if the clouds were a little more cotton white it would be perfect. You did the best job you could with the day you had and overall, this is a great shot! The angle you shot the lighthouse and house from is well chosen. If you had walked around to the right or the left I think the image would have been much more boring (ie-terrific job spotting the most interesting spot!). Where is this lighthouse???? I want a picture...I'm jealous! Very good work--go back and try it again on a day when the sky is a little more clear. If you had puffy clouds and a polarized filter I think this would be one of the best shots I've seen on this site. Overall, it is still great how it is!

I'm a big fan of spectacular colors. I always think my shots have great colors but must admit that the ones you captured here are among the best I've seen--very strong work! I find myself torn a bit...I would like to see the horizon and trees a little higher and more prominent in the picture but just when I think that I look up and the sky is worth a picture by itself! Maybe you could zoom out a bit and incorporate the trees a bit more (ie-place them very slightly higher). I'm being picky though and would have to have been there with you to see how my idea would have worked. This is a VERY STRONG photo and I simply cannot say enough about the colors--I'm jealous! I don't give them out very often, but you get 7's from me!

I really like this idea and think this picture is good, but could be improved. Personally I'd like to see the boat a little bit bigger. Also, although I like the "stormy" sky look, I think it's a little dark and monotone. I think if the clouds had been more separated (or fewer of them) and you could light up the sky a bit more, the picture would have turned out better. I think you did the best shot you could with the day you were shooting--another day probably would have given a better shot. Overall, it is a great idea and good composition.
  4. Beautiful colors! I'd like to see a bit more landscape with this photo but it is nicely done. I like the trees to the side and think that if you had a few more to give it more "texture" it would enhance the image. But, the sky is spectacular and you did a great job capturing it! Well done!

Phil-This is one of the best shots I've seen on this site. You really did a great job. The previous comments have expressed my thoughts well (and more eloquently than I could have). I love the position of that fence post to the left--it seems like I could reach over and touch it. If you don't mind, could you please let me (us) know what lens you were using? This is a great example of the pictures I want to learn to take and I would appreciate the opportunity to learn from you. Thanks!
  5. Leon--I agree the lighthouse is tilting in the photo. I knew someone would comment on this but I didn't know what to do because it REALLY IS leaning (the island is mostly gone and the base of the lighthouse is in the water--they are in the process of trying to stabilize it to preserve it since it's over 100 years old). I couldn't tell if the lean was from my framing or the lighthouse really leaning. It was a toss-up but I left it how it was. You are right though, it may be a bit more pleasing if it was tilted, even if that isn't how it really is.
