  1. Hello,

My favorite use of a camera is to capture priceless images of people, informal

portraits. I prefer all manual cameras to electronic and film over digital.

Is there any real advantages, other than pleasure and experience, of LF for

portraits over for example 6x7 mf? If so, should I start with 4x5 or 5x7? If

I get a LF camera, I want something simple and classic. I absolutely love the

wooden ones! I have also thought about a Fuji 6x8. I also want to get into

taking pictures of buildings. Can you recommend a place to start? I would

rather start somewhere other than Crown. I am looking for a kit, what size

and brand lenses are good? Thank you for your patience. Terry

  2. Thank you for all of the feedback. Basically, what I want to do may seem crazy, but I want to go back to fully manual cameras, just the shutter, lens, and handeld light meter. I would like a 35mm, Rollei 6x6, and 4x5 format. I want to have mint condition examples of old pro cameras with the best lenses. For me, photography is just a hobby and this will seem more like an art or craft. I also love extremely well built older pro grade cameras. Looking at and using them is part of the joy. Thanks, Terry
  3. Thanks Michael. I like the looks of an old F1. Are there any particular problems with them? Can I use the AIS lenses on any Nikon? How far back do I need to go for a completely manual Nikon?

    Thanks, Terry

  4. Hello,

I am thinking about purchasing a manual body and don't know which model to get.

I already have a F100, but want a classic pro manual body for my manual lenses.

It really doesn't even have to have a metered prism. Thanks, Terry

  5. Dennis,

He mailed it out this morning. Has no problem with me sending it back. The meter doesn't matter to me that much, I just don't like the fact that it is missing. And the bubbles under the leather, that does bother me. For me, part of enjoying a camera is the condition. If I am going to spend $850, I may as well find a mint camera and spend $1,200. By the way, how do these lenses compare to Hasselblads? Thanks, Terry

  6. Dennis,

Thank you very much. I have written to the seller asking for a refund and not to ship the camera. Here we go again. Sometimes I feel like getting a C330 and be done with it. Terry

  7. Thank you all so much. I started this thread about the Tessar lens because I didn't think it would be seen in my earlier one. I did find and purchase a Rolleiflex tonight. It is the 2.8 F Planar in Exc++ condition. It was a little pricy, but I got what I wanted. This is so exciting! Regards, Terry
  8. Thanks Vince and Bob. I have finally decided to by the Rollei TLR and am shopping on EBay. I have bought a lot of camera gear there with great results. Looking for this camera is very complicated. I really don't mind spending the money, but I just want to be very certain that I get the right one. I can't tell whats an E, F, or T! I guess I want the best model and lens and in excellent condition. I will find it, as soon as I have confidence in the model. Your help is appreciated.

    Terry

  9. Great, any experiences with the 45-90 or 150 lenses? Is the camera easy to focus? I have a chance to get a body, 75, 45-90, 150, motor drive, and prism, in excellent condition for $1,200.00. Is that a good deal? Thanks, Terry
  10. I have been looking at both Rollieflex and C330s. Since Rolleiflexs are so

expensive, I would want to make sure I bought the best model with the

preferred lens. What are a few of the most preferred models, especially for

portraits. I just like the idea of a classic, manual, mf. Also, will the

image quality be much better than the C330s?

    Thanks,

    Terry

  11. Great, which model Rolleiflex is best. I have been looking at those this week, just think they are overpriced. I have been all over the map with my photography, currently owning a S2 DSLR, and a Nikon D200. I love them both, but my happiest years in photography has been with a manual camera and light meter. Thinking of selling everthing and buying a classic, high end, manual, mf and taking as many pictures of my children while film is still available.

So, if I wanted to wait until I found the best Rollei, would it be the 2.8? I really don't want one with the light meter either. Specifically, which model or models? Are the results that much better than the C330? Is the image quality good enough that I can crop when needed, since the lenses are not interchangable? Will it be cost prohibitive making it better to just get a 501?

    Thanks,

    Terry

  12. Hello again,

This forum has been so helpful with all of my questions, thanks. Also, is

there a particular format or camera that is more applicable to handholding? I

am referring image quality, not convieience. I don't think I ever got a

decent handheld shot with an RB I once had.

    Thanks,

    Terry

  13. Hello,

Photography is strictly a hobby for me. I have gone from 35mm as a teenager

(30 yrs. ago), to medium format, to digital, and now just bought a Nikon

F100. I have never thought of 35mm being a portrait format, are people using

it? I just bought some Tmax 100 and UC 160 to begin with. Is that a decent

choice? I will be shooting indoors with bounced flash, and outdoors. My

    lenses will be 85 1.8, 35-70 2.8, and 105 2.5 AIS. Do you think I will get

any better results compared to my S2, which I still have. Sold my mf camera.

    Thanks for your opinions. Terry

  14. Thanks Pavel and Brian. Brian, I sold the RB several years ago. Thought if I bought another 67, I would try the RZ. Also, I may have been mistaking when I thought I could get a 6x6 film back, it appears that only 6x7 and 6x4.5 are available. I wouldn't mind having a 501, but everytime you want something to add to it, it cost a fortune. There's just not that many 6x6 format cameras to choose from. Oh well, it's all for fun. Terry
  15. I wrote the other day for opinions on 6x6 tlrs. After shopping around, it

looks like I could buy an RZ or RB instead and use a 6x6 film back. It seems

just as economical, and I would also have 6x7. I used to have a Pro SD and

loved it. I would like to try the RZ if I do this, but don't know the

difference between models. Is there a RZ, RZ Pro, and RZ Pro ll? What are

the differences? I always thought the RZ lenses were better than RB, is that

so? I would like a focal length close to RB's 127, what would that be?

    Thanks for your opinions. Terry
