Thank you all. I thought that I had to stick with AF D, or I would lose some AF and Metering properties of the F5. I just ordered the F today, and am trying to decide on a lens, other than the 35-70 I ordered. Is the 50 1.4 as sharp or sharper than the 35-70.
You all would probably know this, is the F5 a decent choice to shoot my boy's soccer games? I thought it would be a cost effective way, without spending thousands on a fast DSLR. I just bought a Fuji S2 for snapshots around the house, so my lenses will be interchangeable.

Terry

Wow, thanks for the quick responces. Forgot to say, that I have already ordered a new 35-70, but hoped there was a stellar normal (AF) prime available. I just sold my Cannon kit, so I am used to L lenses, and have a lot to learn about Nikon. I like metal, speed, and IQ. It seems like everything pushes me toward the 24-70, but I just don't want to spend that. Thanks, Terry

Hello,
I just bought an F5, and need to know what the best (optically) normal prime
lens will be. Are the 50 1.8 and 1.4 AFD my only choices? If so, which is
best as far as IQ? I really appreciate your help.

Dan,
I left medium format film for the 5D, and have no regrets. The 5D is a wonderful camera, especially being full frame. Your lens selection almost becomes a commitment to full frame. I have the following: 24-70 2.8L, 50 1.2L, 85 1.2L II, 135 2L, 200 2.8L. I will add the 35 1.4L and be finished. A new 5D, with the 50 and 135 alone, is a sweet thing. Oh, don't forget to get a couple of 580EXs and the ST-E2 transmitter.
Have fun,
Terry

Dennis,
That is really nice. Chimera makes the speedring for two flashes, as well as singles. I really appreciate your sample photo.

Just wondered if anyone has tried a Chimera softbox with their 580EX. I have
a few 580s and the ST-E2 and thought it might work well for taking portraits
of my children around the house. Thanks, Terry

Not sure if you guys will see this, but what is the absolute best soft box to use with Compact 600s?
Thank you,
Terry

Thanks Jonathon,
This will be my first system, and really want to get it right. I have considered Profoto, but it seems like the features are pretty basic for what you pay. I have read complaints about the accessories being so expensive. What exactly is so nice about them?

Gary, for some reason, I thought people prefered not to do that. I have assumed there was a reason such as lowering the quality of light. If this is something I can count on doing with excellent results, it takes away the concern of being overpowered when I want to shoot at 1.2-1.8. Does the quality of light stay the same?
Brooks, thank you. That's exactly the information I needed and can work with. Ideally, I would want to place the softbox closer than 10 feet for head shots, so maybe a minimum of 15 w/s would work, or even the neutral density filter. Does that sound right? Hensel Integra 500s power down to 1/32, which is 15 w/s. They claim that the power is consistent throughout the power range.
Thank you,
Terry

Brooks and Edsel,
Thanks for your reply. My main concern is the power control. For instance, I could power down a Hensel 500 to 1/32, for shooting fast primes at 1.2-1.8. How much control can I get out of a pack & head. There is a speedotron 800 watt, two head Black Line kit within my budget, but not sure about the control and accuracy.

JR,
Thanks, that is very good to know. When it comes to being accurate accross the power range, do you know how Hensel Integras rates? What did you switch to?
Thank you,
Terry

Thanks Guys,
Gary, I read the link, thanks. I have been reading specs on lights a lot lately, and have a good understanding now. Considering pack and heads was just one of those last minute thoughts before I ordered monos. As far as a pack per head, I did thing about buying one pack and two heads for now, then buying the second set later. I have read comments on the benefits of having more than one head. How does two per head sound?
Ronald, I am aware of the brands you mention, just wasn't sure about Novotron. As far as monos, I have seriously considered WL 1600s, but now sure how dependable or accurate they are a low power. They definately have the ability to adjust down to 1/128th, but don't know how they perform at that level. I have also considered Hensel 500s, which adjust down to 1/32 and supposed to have consistent performance throughout the power range. Can you share anything regarding low power usage. I have a couple of very fast primes I like to shoot at 1.2-1.8, so I need accurate control.

Hello,
I am about to purchase my first studio light kit. All along, I have assumed
that monolights were the best option. Should I be giving serious
consideration to pack and heads? How would something like a Novotron 1500
watt 3 or 4 head set be for portraits? I shoot with a Canon 5D and fast
primes. I do need very good performance at low power levels and good amounts
of adjustment.
Thanks for your help.

Michael, I know that's good advice, thank you.

Thank you, both. I will research both ideas. It does get a little challenging to make the right purchase at first, and avoid having upgrade in the near future.

Hello,
I am about to order three White Lightning 660 watt strobes and Matthews light
stands. To complete my kit, I need your opinions on light diffusers.
With a three light set up, what exactly should I start with? Should I
consider two umbrellas, two softboxes, or one of each? Do you prefer
softboxes, octa softboxes, or lightbanks? What size umbrellas and softboxes
should I start with? Should they be white or silver? I will be taking
portraits of people of all ages, singles and groups.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you Ni. I really have been debating between the 50 1.2 and 35. They are both nice focal lengths on full frame. Regards, Terry

Hello,
I do mostly informal portaits with my 5D. I currently have the 24-70, 85 1.2,
135 2, and 200 2.8. I prefer primes and thought about adding the 35L. Will
there be much difference in IQ between the 35L and 35mm with the zoom, other
than speed? I know I will have to stop down with both, but hoped the prime
would perform better. Has anyone made the comparison?

Thank you all for your input, so far. I really appreciate it.

Thank you, Doug. Are there others that you suggest I look at? I alos thought about the Hensel Integra 500 and Elinchrom 400 BX. Are you familiar with how they compare to WL?

Hello,
I am thinking about buying a used set of White Lightning Ultras. The set
consists of: (1)1800 and )(2) 1200 lights. They have hardly been used, and
come with stands, refectors, umbrellas, and case for $1,100. What is your
oppinion of these lights? Your help is appreciated.

Ronald,
Thank you. I checked and 35mm is better.

Beau,
I really appreciate that. I have four Ls now, and just want to try something different. I am use to all manual medium format camera and really don't mind losing auto focus. I currently have a Leica Summilux 50mm 1.4 manual focus.
Also, do you know anything about the Distagon 28mm f/2?
