1.
I hope you had and have a written contract specifying, among other things, the payment schedule. You said this was only $250.00 and that may not be a consequential amount, but if the total was $600.00, you just walked away from 40% or thereabouts. Hopefully that puts this in a different perspective. Finally, $600.00 for a full wedding is peanuts. PLEASE triple your prices today.

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video

 5.
We know there are other retailers who have chosen to overlook these restrictions and have simply gambled they either won’t get caught or won’t suffer excessive penalties if they do get caught. For instance:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/09/amazon-fined-shipping-dangerous-goods-by-air-caa/
http://fortune.com/2016/06/22/amazon-fined-shipping-hazardous-products/
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-13/amazon-fined-by-u-s-faa-for-shipping-dangerous-cargo-on-planes -- this one opens, “Retailer violated hazmat regulations 24 other times since 2013.” It goes on to say, “U.S. aviation regulators are seeking a $350,000 fine…” I wager Amazon doesn’t think $350,000 is more than an inconsequential slap on the wrist.
I could go on, but hopefully you get the picture.
BTW as I noted earlier, this is not at all a new, or even recent, development.

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video

 6.

These materials are shipped safely and legally by others every day. So far as I know, the materials that we are discussing weren't made by B&H in New York, were shipped to B&H from the their manufacturers.

Either they are trucked to us, avoiding the air restrictions or the people sending them have taken the painful complicated steps of having them cleared for delivery to us. That does not extend to clearing delivery from us. I am not an expert on this but we are confident that at least one of the "others" being mentioned is not in compliance with these regulations. We prefer to comport ourselves otherwise.

I'd hoped for a more reasoned reply. This sounds as if B&H isn't trying, or interested in trying.

I don't think gratuitously insulting me or my replies here is profitable to this conversation.
Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video

 7.
Most of the items we cannot now ship are categorized as Class 9 hazardous materials.

I noticed over at rangefinder forum someone supposedly spoke to a "buyer".

As I said there, this determination is made by our legal dept's compliance team, not buy a buyer.

I suggest, the because of its size and consequence dominance of the market, B&H has some responsibility to be a (the) reliable source of supply to those working in a darkroom.

And I suggest that because of its size and consequence dominance of the market, B&H has some responsibility to comport itself ethically and with integrity and to comply with required federal safety regulations. YMMV

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video

 8.
In the wake of the ValuJet Flight 592 crash on May 11, 1996, the federal government began cracking down on safety regulations for many different chemicals in airplane cargo holds. We don't ship ground so every order has to conform. We elected to observe the safety restrictions scrupulously and the result is a range of chemicals and similar items we cannot ship. Compressed air products like Beseler Duster fall under the same restrictions. More recently there have been similar issues with lithium batteries.

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video

 15.
Blazej:
I've been informed the used dept manager spoke to you by phone and the matter is in the process of being resolved amicably. 18.
As a user of several of the top brands, I used to think that. The B+W Kasseman (-1.5 stop loss) really is different. It's a bit more subtle, and I think more natural looking.
All pol filters are a sandwich -- a piece of pol materiel between two slices of glass. In general the difference between a Kasseman and the less expensive type is the Kasseman is edge sealed to reduce the chance dust or moisture can get between the inner glass surface and the pol materiel. If the glass is the same and the pol materiel is the same, edge sealing (i.e. Kasseman) should have no impact on image or image quality. YMMV

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video

 24.
The warehouse workers voted whether or not to adopt union representation last November. The vote was supervised by the NLRB and took place uneventfully and without incident. Since then negotiations have proceeded peacefully and in an atmosphere of collegial cooperation. Much of they hyperbole you read preceding the vote was untrue.

B&H does not and has never purposely discriminated against any individual or group. We conform to all local, state and federal laws regarding recruitment, hiring and employment. The sales staff has not been and is not now exclusively or even predominantly white, Orthodox men. You may wonder about our recruiting. We do a variety of things to attract potential hires but one thing we do is ask current employees for their recommendations. Many companies, large and small, do the same. The benefit is talking to possible new hires who know a bit about us. Recommendations from current employees often include friends, former co-workers, relatives and neighbors.

The allegations being made about warehouse conditions are likewise untrue. There is no asbestos, no lung-searing clouds of dust, no flakes of fiberglass peeling off the ceiling. The restrooms are as clean as those our Superstore customers use. There are no "substandard conditions."

There are not and have never been separate restrooms, except male & female. Every person older than 14 I know has a cellphone with a camera. If there were or are separate unsanitary restrooms I think we’d have seen photos of them in various social media. There has not been one. There have been reports from non-employees who have visited our warehouses recently reporting clean, safe, well-lit working conditions and restrooms as sanitary as those set aside for customers in our retail store.

The employees are not, as has been widely reported, "undocumented." Other than take-home pay, every B&H employee, including the warehouse workers, me and my boss, get the EXACT same menu of benefits.

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video
