Thanks you very much. I am glad you like it.

Kim it was another late night insomnia driven project.

Thank you Rafik. I appreciate the comments.

If you ever get the chance I highly recommend a visit to Muir Woods. The trees will take your breath away. Words can't begin do them justice. And to be honest, its even difficult for a photo to do so.

Muir Woods is so mesmerizing you can lose all sense of time. The day I took this I arrived at the entrance 7:15 AM. Thats 45 minutes before its supposed to officially open. Nobody was around so I went ahead and entered the woods. I thought I had been there an hour and a half or so, but when I exited I was amazed to find 5 hours had elapsed.

  1. My impression was that this is a nice image. I wanted to look at the larger size to confirm that but unfortunately it was taking forever to load. I finally gave up in the attempt. Everything else seems to be operating normally so I suspect its the file size. If you use a little more compression the images look just as good and it makes for a quicker and a more enjoyable viewing experience.

Well composed with nice detail in the feathers. The color is very good and it has a beautifully rendered out of focus background. Good work.

Thank you Jamie. I was driving along the Northern California coast when I saw this guy sitting on that post by the side of the road. I didn't have my long telephoto with me but I really didn't need it.

I was amazed at how this bird tolerated my presence. This was taken from a distance of 20 feet or so. I have never had a hawk in an open environment let me get that near. I think I could have gotten closer but I didn't want to push my luck or stress the bird.

Thank you Pnina. I wish I knew what kind of bird this was. Someone thought it was a Harris Hawk but the beak coloration isn't quite right for that species. Besides a Harris Hawk is a desert bird and Sonoma County in California is definately not a desert enviroment. One thing is for sure, it doesn't have much fear of people. It acted like it couldn't have cared less that I was there.

Thank you Kim. You have no idea how proud my wife was of those flowers. They certainly did lift ones spirits on a cold winter day. When I took this it was well below zero outside.

Actually the job search has been put on hold for the moment. I have made a commitment to my employer to help them move a fairly complex operation from California to Washington state. I would like to collect a severance package which means honoring that committment.

I have spent most of the last two months in California working long hours. That makes it difficult to look for new work in Colorado. (Or do much in the way of photography either for that matter.) The California leg of this adventure will be ending soon. I will then spend a good deal of time in Seattle through the October / November time frame. I am going to miss the Elk during the rut in RMNP. Guess thats life. Nothing to be done about it in any event. Come the end of the year I will have nothing but free time to look for work.

If you can assist me in identifing this bird I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance. This was taken on the California coast just north

    of Jenner if that helps.
