  1. And, thanks once again for appreciating a photo that others don't seem to. This didn't do well in the old ratings game and didn't attract any comments. I think people just look at it as a standard sort of postcard shot, which it is. On the other hand, getting it (FOR ME) required spending four hours walking around the entire base of the hill, freezing, with the weather and light changing all the time looking for good spots and waiting for good light. A person who knew the area could probably drive there and get this in five minutes, though.

  2. Thanks again ... this is my favorite photo from Segovia. Unfortunately, it loses a lot in the PN process. Still, it was worth the effort although it didn't seem that way when I was running up that damn hill in the snow. :-)
  3. Once again, thanks ... you have a way of finding some personal favorites of mine that have gotten lost. Ths is one that I have always loved but other people don't necessarily appreciate and I love it for exactly what you noticed. However, I can't claim that the blur was intentional. I would do it on purpose now, but back then I didn't know how. This was a result of using a big zoom in an INCREDIBLY crowded place trying to isolate some single figures.

Thanks again. I've had a lot of bad luck with rain in Spain on my last four or five trips. The B & W is oe way to try to deal with it...

Thanks again, Alberto. I really appreciate your comments considering how great all your own shots of this location are. Again, I was only here for about an hour on a trip down from Madrid, but we were lucky enough to get some great light. This was actually taken a bit late. I parked at the castle and walked along taking shots. By the time I got here, the light was gone. In retrospect, I should have driven to the end and started from there as I missed some amazing light. That's why one always gets better shots after visiting a place multiple times.

Thank you ... I'm not completely happy with this shot. I was only in Segovia for one day (took the bus from Madrid where I go often) and the weather was changing from rain to snow to clouds to sun the whole day I was there. I love this view (from the steps of the Templar Church (Vera Cruz)and I hope to shoot it again in the morning in the summer. When I took this, the sun was off to the right and behind the Alcazar a bit. As a result, I underexposed all my shots here. The light on the church itself was incredible though, as you can see in the shot through its door that is also in this portfolio.
  4. Thank you again ... another one of personal favorites. I took about five here, but there was something about this one that just made it stand out.

I loved Fatih. I sat in a mosque and talked to a guy for an hour and another guy at a kebap shop befriended me and tried to give me a free sandwich. I wonder if I would find it as welcoming today ... unfortunate.

  5. Thank you, Alberto. This is one of my favorite pictures that I have ever taken. Although, I must admit to copying someone else I saw attempting it.

I also must admit that Laura, as she almost always is, is correct. Indeed, it isn't the elevator shaft. It's actually the railings and glass of the central shaft Gaudi built to let light into the building. When you are kneeling and looking at this, the elevator is directly behind you.

  6. One of the hardest pictures to get that I've ever had. It was cloudy

all day with just a patch of blue here and there, all of a sudden

the sun came underneath the clouds and lit everything up with the

most incredible red glow that I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I was

at the beginning of climbing up a hill to take this. I had to sprint

to the top of the hill and got about five shots before the glow was

    gone ...

  7. I think all of my pictures of San Francisco are a bit touristy. But,

when one only has two days ....

Anyway, it's pretty hard to take a picture of this that hasn't been

done 1000 times by better photographers than me, but this was

    probably my best attempt.

The theater was still under construction when I was there so I had

to walk away to find a place where you couldn't see fences and

trucks. Then, I had to really work to find a place where I could get

a reflection in the water and hide the sun also. Was it worth it?

  8. Sure I'll get blasted for this one ... but there is something about

it I like. I was surprised when I saw the sharpness, considering I

was standing on top of the bleachers at a polo match (seen in the

    next shot)

Does anyone have an opinion whether they prefer the horizontal shot

or the vertical? I prefer the composition of the horizontal but I

think the colors came out a bit better in this one
