  1. Yup, I saw him in the early 70's in High School and he was then... he like I have put on a few pounds since then... He does not play nearly as much but when he does it is still just as exciting. He plays a ton of dates and still does a bunch of High School gigs. I have always admired his willingness to work with the High School players. Way back in the day I could play along with MacArthur Park note for note and drove my parents crazy.... :) Now I'd be lucky to hit C never mind a high C... :(

Thanks again for all of the kind feedback... I knew I liked the image and felt it was okay but I honestly did not know how to judge it compared to people who do concert stuff for a living. I know I suck at wedding photography and most other people realated stuff.. Guess I got lucky on this one!

A lot of his old records have been remastered and re-released... Amazon has most of them, well worth checking out!

Oh and Vadim I have it in a RAW file from a Canon 1D Mark II.. it was shot at 800 ISO. I just recently found out that my cousin after 30 years went to visit an old high school friend in CA... then she says "her father for all of you Jazz enthusiasts is Maynard Ferguson..." So I guess I'll be using that connection to send a .jpeg for him to see...

  2. My goodness I really did not expect to get this much feed back... and to the poster who chastised me for trolling for compliments... HONEST I'm not.. if you look at the rest of my portfolio you will see I'm a nature guy! This is very new to me... and yes HARD to do.
  3. Here is something different for me... I am a BIG fan of Maynard so I went to a concert and

played. I've never before tried to photograph at a concert... Does this have any merit at all?

I'm clueless about this type of photography...

It works just fine.. more than fine in fact very nice.. but another alternative is to not have the boat itself in the image. I don't think its necessary... the reflection in and of itself is sufficient in this case.. Again its great the way it is... just another opinion...

Happy to try and help... the bottom line is if you like it thats all that matters! I get frustrated on sites like this at times as so many are unwilling to give constructive feedback... Keep at it and have FUN!

The subject matter here is wonderful.. but.... there is way to much information and the bright white spots are very distracting... I would suggest that you would have gotten closer to fill the frame with just the shadow creating an interesting composition from it... something like I've attached.

    More Lensbaby fun!

Please rate with the understanding of what this is... It is a Lensbaby lens shot.. don't know

what that is? www.lensbaby.com.... Soft edges are part of the lens!

  4. Not a problem... The bottom line is that you like it!! That is really and truly all that matters!

Thanks for your kind comment on my image "The Dance"... That image completely summarizes the soul of my experience in South Africa. Can't wait to go back.

  5. No Hanna the Lensbaby is a lens. Check them out at www.lensbaby.com A very inexpensive lens that lets you focus in a particular spot and let the rest of the image go soft... great fun! Nice to hear from you Hanna. I need to check out your work again!

Fair enough... It was a rather quick tweak... :) Ya know I just looked at what I did in PS and in PS it does have more contrast than what I see was posted... hummm.....

Great texture and color. I also like the implied lines that appear to fan out... I think I would work this one a bit in PS to really enhance it to it's fullest. None the less a very nice image.
  6. I appreciate that this is a beautiful subject but for me it is a very static and boring image. Normally (but not always) placing the subject dead center bulls eye in the picture space is very static as it is here...

I just peeked at the rest of your portfolio and see that my comment is quite useless to you... you have some very nice strong images in there... I guess I'm surprised by this one after seeing others... Nice work overall...

I can't believe someone has not commented on this wonderful image! I love the leading line and the clouds were in your favor this day! A very pleasing image.
