Thankyou Seven, I recall many moons ago, I needed USM help, you offered sound advice which I've learnt. The good advice of cropping the sky here is the fresh eye I need too. I do slightly worry that by doing so, would the pic become too long & thin?
(BTW)I visited your portfolio only yesterday, before 'my gap year' you didn't post all those lovely pics, so glad to see more then just 3 of your work:)

A perfect Christmas card :)

The aged muted colours grab me the most. Strong feel of an oil abstract.
-
Perfectly rich colours and composition. The background colour and waterdrops add to the magic of this lovely image.

Thank you Doug, you know until you pointed that out, I had not noticed, and you're right! No you are not picker, just good eyes.

Hi Phil, this is the sort of image I dream to do. Quiet and beautiful.
-
Picture was taken in colour, blue skies white clouds etc...thought
B&W gives more mood?

I saw a real version of this just yesterday after heavy rain. A tranquil, peaceful lovely image. (wish mine came out so well :)

Image taken after heavy rain. Missed the spider but got the web.
Thank you for looking in.

You're very kind to look in here Andy. As you will no doubt read I spent time shooting for the spider that was in this web only to find out on my PC that I had him on the underside! Took some web shots which I'v had fun playing with since - so all isn't lost.

Hi Antony, your crop is interesting, it has somehow brought the whole image forward, the center building takes on a different look. Interesing.....I will take it to PS and study your version.
No this was not Summer Palace. Its actually a local garden in the center of Beijing (15 minutes away from Grand Hyatt) I try to go there most times I travel to Beijing, as all the elements are there. But the draw back with shots of calm is ofcourse to get out of bed really early, getting there by 6.30 is already late!
Thank you so much for trying the crop. I am grateful. Will at a later stage upload another from this place, see what you think. Regards, Audrey

Everyone for the kind comments. This image started life in mute tones so the conversion seemed to high contrast B&W was easy. The morning was very still which also helped keep the water motionless.
Antony, I did try your crop of removing the rock on the left, but I feel somehow the left side was off balance. Having the rock there seems to anchor and balance the overall image better. Thank you so much for taking the time to offer your suggestions.
And yes, this part of the world, especially very early mornings have a special kind of magic.

A little detail was found, did my best to lighten, probably should
stay darker? Thank you for comments.

'London Tourist' a shot I saw long while back, never forgot and admired much.
Appreciate your kind comment here, but are you adviceing that I burn in the blacks even more? Was actually worried that the image was too black, did my best to lighten :) Shows how much I need to learn. Will have another go at it.

Funny how we seem never to look around the places we live but go looking far and wide elsewhere :) You live in a part of the world so full of photo beauty, go look!!

Taken with a digital camera very early morning, converted to B&W,
high lighted to give a more impressionist feel. Thank you for
comments.

Its part of my first 2 and a bit rolls. The negs were done by the lad at the cost of 37 pounds!! Must start doing them myself or else the cost will overtake my camera gear. My first thought upon seeing the negs was that it was way too dark, but the scan showed some details, think here I probably over USM and contrasted. Will try lowering both for the other side.
BTW - I just love this camera, am quite comfortably with the 50mm. Thank you for getting me started.

Trying here of a impression of Chinese brush painting :)
PS - am doing some long overdue housekeeping here in the hope of clearing and tiding my messy folders for uploading more of recent works :)

Hi granpa Alan!
Creative idea with a simple item. The pattern the light makes is star-like.
