This was a challenging shot in a dark cathedral where tripods weren't

allowed. However, I really like how it turned out. I'm particularly happy with

how the window areas became so white and provided a contrast to the

darkness. What do you think? Comments/ratings appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  1. This is my favorite from the series that I shot during the recent power outage

here in the city. I'd appreciate any comments/ratings on this and any others in

the folder. Please keep in mind that these were all shot hand-held, some in

    near complete darkness. Thanks, Mark

  2. I just checked out your version 2. Much better. Interesting pose, good DOF and wicked sharp. The bass is in a bit of an odd spot, maybe the saturation could be played down a bit, or I think it would look fine in BW. Nice shooting in difficult circumstances.
  3. Close! I'd really like to see those mountains a bit clearer. Also, I think there's a bit too much sky going on. Cloudless days are tough that way. If you can get this shot again with some interesting cloud shapes... As well, the boat keeps pulling my eyes way to the right. I'd put it closer to the center or lose it entirely. Nice shot of a nice view. All above IMO, of course.

A good shot. I'm thinking about the shapes of the logs relating to the shapes of the chimneys in the background. However, this one is an unfortunate victim of vast overexposure. You might try one like this perhaps 1 or so stops down to maintain detail.
  4. Pretty good! My only criticism is that the coolness of your flash betrays it's origin. Next time you might try a warming filter over the flash and a diffuser to cut the sharpness of the shadows. Anyway, I was just in Yosemite myself, and you get points in my book for climbing to that spot. That place damn near killed me. Check out my folder, if you'd like. I'd appreciate some feedback from someone who knows the place.
