This is one photo from a series of impromptu portraits of New Yorkers that I'm
working on. It was taken at about 250mm with a zoom telephoto at night.
There are always very intense and interesting people walking through Times
Square, and this woman was no exception. Any ratings/comments
appreciated.

Great use of light! A very intriguing portrait.
-
IMO, the effects are a bit heavy-handed here.
-
Image size way too big! I can't see all of it at once!
-
Nice portrait, but I'd crop a lot of the top off.

Really like this one. The appearance of what looks to be a horizon and sun in the dew adds real dimension and detail to the drops. Compositionally, it's strong but a bit left-heavy. I'd like to see something pull my eye over to the right. The coloration on right helps, but I keep going back to the contrasty detail on the left side. Good shot though! Happy shooting.

If the people have been made smaller, then I'll feel duped. Magic is graceful and
suggestive, but this would only just end up a trick. A cheap one at that. Also, it
sure wouldn't show much respect for the actual structure that it proclaims to
be inspired by. What, not big enough for ya?

I'd agree that the sky should be a touch more neutral. Otherwise very impressive.

Image is too large to see in it's entirety. Please downsize and upload again.

Really nice. Did you gel the lights, or are they lit like this always?

This is hysterical. Please tell me how you got this to happen. My guess is that this is a quick portrait before a practice fire. Am I right?

Really nice. Great color and texture.

file size too big to see on a 21" monitor in it's entirety!!

OK David. I took your advice!

No magic broken here! I'm surprised as to how close your final piece was to the original. It only looks as though you've increased contrast and saturation. I will admit, though, that I like the softness of the original.

What is striking about this to me is that despite the complexity of forms and space, there is a nice smooth path for my eye to follow. The orange wedge is an obvious place to start, next my eye goes along the arch surface to the right, finding the distant mountains and that nice blue spot of snow and then to the foreground details on the left. I've shot quite a bit in terain like this and it is always so difficult to represent such an amassment of form in a graceful manner. Excellent.

Really nice. Great mood.

Image too big to see entirely on a 22" monitor!!

Ouch! A bit oversaturated for my taste.

Another nice one. I'd like to see the bridge a bit higher in the frame, perhaps having some dark water to ground the image. However, I'm guessing that you were at the limits of your lens' focal length and favored aurora. Still, this is a really great shot. I've rarely seen shots of the aurora set against urban architecture. If this happens often where you live, it might make for an interesting theme to follow.

Nice catch. Maybe a bit bright on the right, and a bit dark on the left. Did you get this manually? There is a product on the market that will snap the shutter when it senses a bright flash, like lightning. It's supposed to be relatively cheap and a lot of fun.

2nd version. Perhaps a bit more air on the bottom and right, and a bit less on left.
-
Nice one. Strong composition.
