  1. The red in the clouds is actually a reflection of Australia's "Red (desert) Center." And I'll be posting more photos from this series - I couldn't stop shooting! Thanks for the comments.

    Teeth of Dragon?

I'm not too crazy about the loose focus on this orchid; perhaps a shot from further out, and zoomed in would have produced a more evenly-focused flower (unless, of course, you wanted to have varying focus in the photo). Nice color, nice minimalist background.

    Cat Stairs

Hope no one needs to use these stairs...nice use of the diagonal; I wonder if a closer zoom or crop, excluding some of the stuff on the left border of the photo might have made this a better study?
  2. I've never been a big fan of electric poles / wires in photos; I'm not sure that this one adds much to your otherwise nice picture. The sunset colors and cloud texture is heavenly - perhaps we could have seen more of the sky? Nice moment!
  3. Hey Fritz - let me comment on your photo first...it's a nice concept, it suggests how a drunk person may see his next drink...your technique seems pretty good as well; I like the lack of major definition in the background - it "focuses" you on the glass. Aesthetically, however, it doesn't tickle me much. I can think of many other types of photos I'd rather look at - landscapes, portraits, etc. The photo doesn't strike me as particularly beautiful, but I must give you credit for a well-conceived, well-shot picture.

Having said this, I'd like to request that you re-critique my photo (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2027619). I appreciate you visiting and rating / critiquing the photo, but honestly, could you be more specific. I notice that you've commented "good," "bad," "below avg.," etc. on others' photos as well. The whole point of having an amateur website such as this is that we can learn from each other. As such, could you expand on your critique, and tell me how my photo struck you as "bad?" We all have a right to our opinions, and yours is certainly welcome. I just don't think it's productive to make a superfluous statement, positive or negative...

    Thanks!

  4. This was taken on a tripod; the camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels...I think that the sharpness is, unfortunately, a format issue. When I see this photo at 50% or 100% zoom level in photoshop, the sharpness looks fine; at lower zoom levels, some of the details blur...I think the clouds look OK in this posted photo (on the website itself), but the buildings look like they could be sharper - I wonder if this is the case because the buildings are so (relatively) small - and thus, the sharpness can't be conveyed. I actually used the "sharpening" tool in photoshop on this photo, before posting it...

Does anyone know how to get around this issue? Thanks for the comments...

    59th and 9th

59th Street can be seen in the left half of the photo; 9th Avenue is

at the right edge; they are intersecting streets, but because of the

skewed angle due to panorama effect, they seem almost

    parallel...comments?
