  1. Jokes aside, your bug is quite beatiful as well, and I think complements the flower's beauty in this photo...it's a nice, simple presentation, and makes an otherwise common flower photo more interesting. You've managed to focus well, and the photo has a nice overall appeal.
  2. I love your Africa series...this particular one is captivating as well, but - the huge rock in the foreground is quite distracting - I think the photo would have worked better if you'd cropped the bottom out (judiciously). I like the colors here, and the hidden faces actually make this scene more arresting. Good postings!

Wow! Nice isolation of the stork - the background is just right for this pose. You got great detail in the bird's front and legs, but obviously, the wings are a bit blown out - hard to get a good balance for a white bird against a dark background. Good capture, though!

Excellent idea! I think the photo could use further cropping to eliminate the gray zone on the right, and possibly even some of the left border, emphasizing your droplet of water even more. And I wouldn't mind a color version of it either, if available. But this is a fantastic idea, and you've captured the water very well!

I would prefer a crop off of the bottom 1/6 or 1/7 of the photo; this would result in a 1 x 2 ratio for height / length, and I think would be more pleasing. The very bottom of the sand does not have much detail, taking away from the part that does. The crop would make the horizon closer to the center of the photo - which I normally don't like, but I think it would work OK with this photo. Having said that, your work is magnificent. I've just moved to California, and look forward to photographing the ocean - you're definitely an inspiration!
  3. Great idea - but: I'm not sure whether the tilted horizon was intentional; however, I find it distracting. I also am not happy about the surfer being on the right edge of the photo; IMO it would have been better to have the surfboard to the right, and the woman a bit left of the surfboard. The photo has nice colors, nice feel, and is definitely pleasing to look at!
  4. I've increased the saturation a few points on the whole photo, and have shaded it slightly to the red (the whole photo). The sky's been blurred a bit, to allow the ocean and rock's texture to dominate more. I've battled between real and artistic portrayal on this site; for now, I'm partial to the artistic side...

Thank you everyone for your comments...especially for the two cropped versions posted...I hope to upload a close-up or two of the apostles, which approximates the first cropped version...

Nice photo...but: the horizon could be more horizontal (a pet peeve of mine), and I agree - the fence post on lower right is distracting. Also, I would have raised the camera a bit to get some more of the distant shore (maybe with sky above it?). Great photo, though; I'm moving to Calif., and can't wait to hit the Pacific Coast Highway!
  5. The photo hasn't been cropped much; in fact, I cropped a sliver of sky at the top, and some of the right margin, to make the tree adjacent to the right border. The circumferential road around Ayer's Rock is at a bit of distance from the rock itself. I wanted maximum detail of the rock itself, so I zoomed in all the way, thus the tree was cut off. I actually like it this way, so that the ground is not included (along with distracting grass, shrubs, etc.); this allows the photo to be simpler. I also liked the difference in textures between sky, cloud, rock and tree...
