  1. "I paid the makeup artist 200$ and the model 200$."

That's a lot of money just to do a test shoot. Most agencies here in LA won't let their experienced talents/models do testing. They only allow the up and coming talents to do testing cause they need photos. What they require is that you offer them free prints for the model's time. Also known as TFP(Time for Print).

You could also try Craigslist. I've had lots of successing finding subjects to shoot from that site. Of course, you probably won't find the next top model on there but you get a wide range of people that will need your service and will do it for free. I highly recommend you, or anybody, to give it a try if you're looking to build your book.

  2. I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there that does headshots

with the 135mm for 4x5? And if you could post samples? I usually

shoot full length but occassionally I do come in close. I was just

wondering if the lens is too wide for close ups and if it would

distort the face? Or is the 150 a better choice?

    Thanks

  3. What a scum. So he actually thought there was a focusing issue but lied about it??? But when you told him there was nothing wrong with it, he replied by saying "Really, I wish I didn't sell it."? What an a$$.
  4. The layout is nice. You have some nice lifestyle pics in there but you also have a lot of technically bad ones. Mostly could be fixed in post. For example, a few of the color pics have banding and flat in color. Some of the black and whites also looks flat too. A few looks like you tried to open up/lighten up a underexposed image in post like the first few in PEOPLE. Or simply, just poor scanning technique. If this is a site you're trying to land jobs with you should seriously sit down and narrow it down to the best and take away the rest. You have great images but need to learn how to work in post.
  5. The eyes is what makes the image for me. With his lighting style, I find the catch lights too distracting. After flipping through his book, I can't remember one powerful portrait. All I remember are those damn catch lights. I'm not saying catch lights are bad, but his is just too over powering. Just my opinion.
  6. The problem with these schools is that they make the students think they will get the best and greatest jobs right out of school cause they are attending the "best" school for the trade. Which is completely B.S. Art schools are completely over hyped. I went to Art Center so I know it first hand. It's over rated, heavily overcharged, teachers are not passionate, and heavily commercialized. Like Claude said, if you have the money than go for it. But if not, I suggest you try taking a course at your local community college for $30-$40 per semester vs. $13,000. THAT'S RIGHT, 13,000 for 3 months of classes! Well, that's Art Center tuition. But Brooks is not too far behind...11,000-12,000(?). You could also try Santa Fe Workshop. These workshops aren't cheap but they seem legit. They have working photographers teaching the courses.

By the way, a degree in the art world does not mean squat. That's what Brooks and Art Center would like you to believe so they could sucker you into spending $100,000+ for a piece of paper.

  7. To all those who helped. A big THANKS!! I finally got the results

I'm looking for. I was getting bad results from using those Tetenal

and Arista C41 Kits. But now, using bleach and fix seperately instead

of BLIX the results looks good. But now I have a slight issue. 1

gallon of Kodak Dev will process 4 rolls of 220 Portra NC. The

bottles in my fully automated Jobo processor is limited to 1000ml.

And from my calculations, it takes 760ml to process one roll of 220

Portra NC. Is there a way for me to get more chemicals into one run to

process more rolls? Or am I totally doing it wrong? Or is this how

    it's suppose to be?

  8. Whitney,

You want to get one that's made by NPC. They sit lower on the body so if you ever decide to use a PM90 prism, the NPC polaroid back won't be in the way. The Hasselblad version sits higher on the body and will not allow you to use the 90 prism. However, both will work fine with the PM45 prism. The NPC is also cheaper in price but the quality is just the same.
