  1. Nice image. What equipment and software did you use?
  2. Mark, Thank you very much for the tutorial. I learned a lot. I noticed in Lens Corrections you did not select Enable Profile Corrections. Is there a reason or just personal preference?
  3. Very nicely done. At first, looking at the shot in the post, it looked rather dark, almost underexposed. When I clicked on the image and saw the full size image, the egret body and yellow on the egret's legs pop out as well as the green lichen growing on the rocks, separating the subject from the grey ocean background. Well done. How much of the effects are from the image exposure and how much post processing did it require?
  4. The only person who can decide if it is "good enough" is you. Rent one for a week and you decide.
  5. I do not know. I run Lightroom 6.14 under Windows 10 on a PC. You might pose the question on the Digital Darkroom forum.
  6. Unless you absolutely must make the correction in camera, do it in post production. I use the Xrite ColorChecker Passport to profile my camera under various lighting conditions and then apply the profile in Post. It works quite well for me in Lightroom 6.14 with both my D750 and Canon PowerShot Pro 1. It is a simple matter of taking a RAW image of the ColorChecker Passport under the lighting condition. When you load you images into Lightroom, first process the Passport image to generate a profile before you process your images. A new version of the ColorChecker Passport should be available before the end of the year ColorChecker Passport Photo 2 - Calibrite - United States
  7. What is the physical meaning of shutter count for an electronic shutter? A mechanical shutter wears and eventually wears out? The only mechanical device that is actuated for a shutter release on an electronic shutter is the shutter release button. I suppose it could wear out. Should a user even care about shutter counts on a camera without a mechanical shutter?
  8. As Alan wrote above, acetic acid is the usual stop bath, at least for Black and White film and paper. Kodak makes an Indicator Stop Bath, using acetic acid with an indicator that turns from yellow, when the bath is active, to purple when the bath is exhausted. A working solution of Indicator Stop Bath may be reused until it turns purple.

    D1x advice

When I purchased my D750 from BH, part of the "package" was an extra Watson battery, in addition to the Nikon battery that came with the D750. I usually keep the Nikon battery in the camera and the Watson lives in my camera bag. Even after months in the bag, when I pop it in my camera it shows full charge or very close to it. I think you have a bad battery, or if it is in the camera, some sort of short. If it is out of the camera, do you store it with the cover on the contacts? If so, it the cover clean, no moisture or dirt inside to short the contacts on the battery.
  10. I agree the first Z-mount lenses Tamron will produce will probably be E-mount designs adapted to the native Z-mount. But the adaption would also involve allowing for the shorter flange distance and wider throat; I doubt Tamron will simply put a spacer between the last element and the mount. Modifying a current design for a smaller flange distance would make good business sense. Most of the R&D costs and the fixed manufacturing costs (tooling and machinery), the autofocus mechanism, the image stabilization mechanism, and the lens body will remain same (of course the firmware driving them will change). This will allow the costs of a very large portion of the lens to be expensed among not only Z-mount lenses but also E-mount lenses resulting in a lower cost per unit to produce the lenses. I expect some of this cost saving will be passed on to the end user in order to gain market share. True, lenses designed for the Z-mount cannot be mounted on a Sony with an adapter simply because the flange distance for the Nikon is less than the flange distance for the Sony. Physical adapters can never subtract distance, but they can easily add distance to adapt a Sony lens to a Z-mount. The fact that Z-Mount lenses cannot be adapted to Sony cameras does not mean that adapting Sony and third party lenses to a Z-mount will produce an inferior image. As for using adapters, if your business requires a native Z-mount lens and that lens is available, then you have little choice. If you are an amateur and have unlimited funds and want native Z-mount lenses, go for it. On the other hand, if the lens you need is not available in native Z-mount an adapter, or you find that native Z-mount lens too expensive, either the Nikon FTZ with a Nikon or third party lens or this ETZ21 with a Sony or third party lens that is available or within your budget, is a viable alternative.
  11. Yesterday, I attended an Webinar by a representative of Tamron on the subject of Optics. I was a very good overview of what the various lens elements did, how the various autofocus systems worked, and how various image stabilization systems worked. It was not deeply technical, but technical enough to be of value, at least to me. He did mention two things that I think would be of interest for Nikon Z-camera owners. First, Tamron has released its first lens for the native Z-mount under an agreement with Nikon. Nikon provided engineering specifications. He "suggested" this would not be the last such lens. Second, he, and others at Tamron, have used this adapter MEGADAP Sony E to Nikon Z Autofocus Adapter (ETZ21) โ€“ Megadap to mount not only Sony E-lenses on a variety of Nikon Z-cameras (including the Z9), but it also works with Tamron E-mount lenses and Sigma lenses. (I believe it works with several other lens brands as well, but he had not tested them). The mount allows the user to use full autofocus, control the lens from the camera, both in body and lens stabilization, and passes lens EXIF data to the camera. I do not have a Z-camera or any E-mount lenses, so I have not tried this adapter. However for Z users, it certainly opens a wide ecosystem of lenses, if it works as advertised.
  12. Very nice image. I think it might be better if it were cropped tighter on just the face since the expression on her face is what makes the image (IMHO).
  13. Oop,. I do not know why I did not see that, Mike. And I have new glasses, too. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  14. No, she linked to the official Nikon announcement. But I do not have to worry about it. The lens will not fit my D750, so the piggy bank remains intact, and the house remains mortgage free. ๐Ÿ˜
  15. I do not believe either of your digital cameras has GPS, but your Pixel 6a does and will tag any images you take with it with the GPS coordinates of the location. Just be sure you cameras are set to the same time as your phone. Then take a quick image with your phone when you shoot a location with the other cameras. Than any images you load into your DAM (I use Lightroom) will appear near each other, no matter what folders you store them in on your computer. It is than a simple matter to synchronize the GPS data from image taken with the phone to the other imaes taken with your other cameras. Ten years from now when you look at them, you will know where you took all your images. You do not have to duplicate each image. Just shoot one image with your phone in the same vicinity as the others. Have a great trip. I look forward to seeing some of your images posted on photo, net upon your return.
  16. Here is Steve Perry"s take on the lens - a needed by Wildlife professionals, for amateurs nice to have if you can afford it:
  17. It is time to upgrade. The Pixel 6a is now on sale for $299 (US) . The phone is unlocked. When you get to Europe, pick up a SIM at the airport and you now have economical cell service in Europe and a local cell number as well as an excellent camera that will GPS stamp your images. AmazonSmile: Google Pixel 6a - 5G Android Phone - Unlocked Smartphone with 12 Megapixel Camera and 24-Hour Battery - Charcoal : Cell Phones & Accessories I am sure there are other vendors that have the same price. My wife has the Pixel 3a and took it to Europe when she visited family and friends. It worked perfectly and she came back with some good images.
  18. The one time I was admonished not to take pictures. I complied, ...sort of๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  19. A restaurant is not a public space. It is private property as are theatres, and concert halls. They may restrict photography, recording and the such, and if you refuse to comply, they may order you to leave.
  20. What cell phone do you have? The digital camera on it might suffice.
  21. You forget you have another parameter you can use in conjunction with shutter speed and aperture- ISO. Rather than write about it here is a link to a video by Steve Perry, a very good wildlife photographer. He explains it better than I can. The Auto ISO "trick" may be used with shutter priority or aperture priority as well as full manual. Of course you have to keep an eye on the ISO the camera chooses; a very high ISO will noise image. but in many cases it is the choice between a noisy image or no image. LINK
  22. The memory you referenced is ECC (Error Correcting ) memory. This is usually used in servers and very High Performance computers. It takes a special type of motherboard and BIOS to use this memory. It is not for use in normal PCs. Short answer, you probably have the wrong type of memory in your computer. What computer are you using? What operating system?

  24. @ Mike and Dieter I thought you both might be interested in this video in which Steve Perry discusses the AF problem. It seems he encountered the same problem..
