The carving in the background is a killer whale that someone carved
last summer on a large piece of driftwood on a (sort of) remote beach.
The stick in front are our 2 hiking sticks which we had leaned up
against the whale after hiking to the beach. The shadows they created
were beautiful.

when i first saw the larger version of this i was torn between two thoughts "my god that's a good picture" and "f*** me, i suck at photography". you see, i thought you had done the impossible and achieved this image with only one shot. honestly, thinking that you got that sky and the detail in the shadows at the same time almost made me give it all up. i was a bit slow to clue in, but now would like to say: hot damn that's some nice work.

the black black background makes the fireworks beautiful and isolated. i like that you can't see the environment they're in. it's much more abstract and flower-like. lovely. i wouldn't change a thing.

i like the soft background contrasted with the wood grain. i think it's cool that post is slightly askew. the light background darkening down to the hard line of the plank really grounds the image.

the lighting of the face and hands is great and the pose is adorable, but there needs to be some delineation to separate her hair from the heavily textured background. a more direct light would cast a defining shadow, but how to do it while maintaining the soft lighting of the skin?

wow! this is great. my favourite part is the line near the top, which adds depth

i like the colour scheme and the crisp focus. nice photo

i like that everything is on the same diagonal. the colours are really nice together too.

there is something sort of off about the dof. the people in the background are out of focus, but still enough in focus to question the subject. the title implies that the kid in front is the subject, but she's not quite separated enough from the herd.

to me the image is overexposed. i assume you were looking for the shadows, but the highlights are much too bright and distract from the subject

because of the intricate fins and stripes, i find that the subject is lost in the watery background. i guess it shows that it's an effective camofluage, but i think it would work better from a different angle ie, without the surface showing.

specifically, is there enough space at the top of the image?
