Even as an amateur I get request for prints and, I'm always confused about pixel dimensions as it relates to print sizes.

I am going to try one of my images just to see what sizes are available.

Again, Thanks for the feature!

Sanford
I don't understand how a large print can be made from the relatively small jpeg size I use for the gallery.
starvy
I think this is a fantastic development and like others I too am wondering about the quality of the final print from the low resolution jpegs we are allowed to upload. For instance, I now use another site to market some of my pictures that allows for much sharper and higher resolution images. Still, this is most enouraging.
Tim_Lookingbill
This sounds like a great idea, Glenn and Cara! Good work!

Don't know how you're going to manage the potential volume of orders considering all the other stuff you have to deal with on this site, but I do hope it works out.

Excuse my picky nature but since you mentioned you've done test prints, how is the color matching from CanvasPOP? Any uprez artifacts? As I'm to understand max rez allowed is 1500 on the longest/widest end at 300ppi, correct?

And would it be possible to take a close up shot of print detail of one of these prints and post here? I've never had any prints made from any online printer and it would save a lot of time knowing just what to expect.
William Kahn
Just one more dumb question (I hope): I'm uploading my shots to a new folder which I've marked as Hidden. Is that OK, or should the folder be marked Private? I don't think Public would be a good option here.

G-P
Thank you! I have to point out that Jin was also instrumental in bringing this to the PN community. His dedication to this site is something rarely found and I'm thankful we all have him. There were many different iterations of this feature and he put up with us constantly asking "well what if"....and there will undoubtedly be more of that as we expand this new feature with CanvasPop. Thank you Jin.
MichaelChang
Glenn, if I "add to cart" one of my own images, is the price listed the image owner's price? I have no means of testing this with other members' image yet.
G-P
I'm not sure I understand the question.
If you click on "buy print" for one of your own images while you are logged in you will get a store titled “Photo.net Personal Store – Purchase your own work at cost”. This is a benefit to subscribers being able to buy their own work at cost to produce the canvas print.
If you click on "buy print" from a different member you will get "Photo.net Print Store" - a different pricing structure, one which will allow for the photographer to earn 80% of the net proceeds - that being sales price - cost.

jim_j2
I've opted in a couple of images and tried the "Buy Print" button so see what sizes may be available but I get nothing.

I tried late yesterday afternoon and again today.

I thinks it's probably more related to my antiquated computer running Windows XP and IE8. And to possibly complicate matters more, . . . my only internet availibility is through a "Hot Spot" from my cellular service provider.

The image I'm testing with is here; http://www.photo.net/photo/17067832

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

carashilaire
Hey Tim - we don't have any in house right at the moment (the three testers were either prizes or gifted) but when we get the next two testers back in house, we will definitely share a quick snap of them for sure - and note how they compare in terms of quality and color.
Tim_Lookingbill
Thanks for getting back with a response, Cara.

For some reason I can't seem to stay focused on getting even 8x10's of my work just to hang on my walls because there's always something that gets in the way be it cost and/or questions over print quality. It has always been a disappointment finding better print results to cost at local vendors (Walgreens so far the best, but $4 an 8x10?! YIKES!) using 1000's of dollars of equipment where my $50 Epson "All In One" trumps them in quality and color matching but the cost of ink/paper gets to be too much.

Online printing just seems like even more headaches because there are so many unknowns. But I applaud the efforts with this unique system Jin has developed with existing PN subscriber accounts. It appears to be a smart way to go about this for those less motivated like myself.

Mark Keefer
Great new feature. I too am concerned images will not be at high enough resolution so I hope Photo.net will soon offer a higher resolution upload. I did select a couple photos to offer for sale. I will have to rethink signature watermarks to be smaller and possibly more artsy if the shot is to become a printed image. Images I have uploaded thus far have been strictly designed for my online portfolio only. I will have to start thinking crop dimensions too, sizes that will be best for printing.

I am really pleased to see Photo.net offering this service for members.

Thanks Photo.net. - Mark
Cheers, Mark
rarmstrong
I ordered one of my own images of a wild blue iris in 16"X13" this evening to see what the quality will look like. It should make a nice piece for the wall at our lake cabin where I took the photo in 2009. I'm anxious to see what kind of quality we can get from CanvasPop.
Thank you PN crew for making this available!
Dick
donna pallotta
Nice feature. Makes sense that PNers posting all their fine work should have such an option, particularly because PN will advertize it, in a way, by posting our work in high traffic areas on the site. My question Glenn is about the financial end.
I made 7 of my photos available for sale, even though you're asking for just 1 now, because I wanted an idea of at what sorts of sizes and prices you will be selling my work. The prices were ok. The sizes ok. But I'm asking about a photo that you attach a $25 price tag to. Will I pay the $50 processing for payout fee? That would make my 80% payout less than what i'll be charged myself for selling a $25 print. In other words: you attach the $25 price tag and charge me $50 for CanvasPop to make the print. Please say this is not so!
niki3
nice idea, only that all the previous photos have been uploaded in low resolution, and often there is also the signature of the author ... what happens in these cases? you need to recharge your photos to ideal solution?
Christal1664882414
I have not read through the entire thread so forgive me if this has already been addressed. I usually put a thin black border around my images so they present better on the website. Would I still be able use the border, or would I need to submit my images without a border to be considered for sale? Thanks for your hard work on this idea. It could prove to be very interesting. Sanford
The ideal thing would be to create a new folder of just those photos offered for sale once we find out what the resolution should be and then resize those to fit one of the offered canvas sizes.
