Thanks to all who commented on my photo this past week, especially Lil (always producing excellent work), Alejandro, Larry Gardner, and Vineet Rajasekhar (all three who ALSO produce excellent work).

Some comments on last week’s photos:

Matthew Brennan – those Aussie clouds make the picture

Tiffany Brook – I smiled at this portrait. I grew up on the Olympic peninsula and can still smell the wonderful forest if I close my eyes and imagine

Gej Jones – Excellent geometric image. We are all glad you did not take a tumble!

Vineet Rajasekhar – clouds make the picture as well as the combined shadows and lighted areas on the hills

Rene Villela – a pintail, right? Thankfully there is autofocus-imagine trying to capture one of these little rockets with manual focus!

John Mita – excellent floral image

Rich Moran – great yellowlegs shot, love the reflection

Doug Santo – great hummer shot

Scott Murphy – love the 4X5 look to your still life. Excellent lighting technique

Emilie Dowd – very nice aspen image

Alpo Syvanen – this image plays tricks on my eyes!

This week I am posting a recently scanned image which was the VERY FIRST picture taken with my new Nikon F2A in 1978! For the sake of preservation I have a scanning project underway of my best shots. This was taken on Kodak color negative film and is beginning to show its age, so I spent much time in Photoshop “bringing it back to specification.” Tiffany will probably know that this is the North Head Lighthouse in Ilwaco, Washington at the mouth of the Columbia River.

Sorry for the lengthy post! Keep up the excellent work, all!

00W7wQ-233285584.jpg.2ccefc6298ba4039a91a9fb269f011d1.jpg

Holy Wednesday my dear Nikon colleagues,

Early celebration of 120th anniversary of Javanese immigration to Suriname... A young Jaran Kepang player was walking with his traditional mask. Little more info about Jaran Kepang is in my oldest blog post here. Hope you like it. Thanks for stopping by and many cheers you to all. Regards,

This was taken as I was driving (slowly and carefully) along a quiet country road. I had previously set up the camera the way I wanted it - an exposure of one second to give the blur and sense of movement and a polarising filter to enable the longer shutter speed. Of course the result may look like a mistake but it is something akin to the image I had in my mind beforehand - like an impressionist painting.

00W7wl-233289584.jpg.04c3f6e1e09073decbe356ada3db3e21.jpg

Yesterday morning I had a photo shoot of a charter boat at 8 am. I was to go to the top of the causeway bridge about 100' off the water and take pictures of the boat as it passed in all directions. I got up early and went out to get the paper and saw this great full moon. I decided to leave early and race down to the bridge before the moon set. Wow what a beautiful sight. The boat shots came out great also. Nikon D3, Nikon 80-400, 210mm, F/5.3, 1/80sec, ISO 800, Exposure compensation -2 step

00W7wo-233289684.jpg.bb511f554cd0a098c3881547ca2db9e8.jpg

Happy wednesday all!
Will be back later to study the steady stream of weekly inspiration!
My attempt this week, the spring weather continues, this time in Italy's warmest city, Catania. A comfortable 22 degrees (Celsius), just a few kilometers away from the snowy Etna I had on wednesday photo last week...

On Sunday, 10,000 motorbikes took part in a local charity event, as they have done at this season for the last 30 years. Since the bikers take gifts to sick children in local hospitals, many of them dress up for the event, as seen here.

I'm posting this in memory of my Dad, who died last week. He was a keen photographer, especially in his younger days, and has left plenty of B&W negatives for me to trawl through for family treasures.

00W7wz-233291584.jpg.dc3013ce3f4257d6d207af6ebf90e1fa.jpg

I was wanting to give my F70 some use as I have been short of time lately so I fitted it with the 50mm f1.4 AF-S and went on a country walk. Despite it being very muddy I found it enjoyable and stopped to take some photos of the last of the snowdrops in this quiet, mossy graveyard.

00W7xO-233297584.jpg.94abb6e1d7947db6073b34eb470494bb.jpg

First off thanks everybody for your kind words on last weeks photo.
This Snowy Egret was flying very low to the water on a very calm day and as luck would have it I managed to get a shot of how close to the water it was.
Taking with a D2H and 600/4
