<p>Happy Wednesday #13 of 2010, Nikonistas.<br /><br />A client's beloved German Wirehaired Pointer had a litter in January. Knowing I'd be shooting an event on Sunday, he asked to meet up there so we could make a field portrait of the litter's pick puppy. I can't resist photographing a pup out learning to be bird dog, and she didn't disappoint - at three months, solidly pointing quail in a muddy, greening briar patch on a hillside in Pennsylvania. Always a thrill to see such natural talent - and she was all joyful business. Nature cooperated with a giant softbox of a cloudy sky.<br /><br />Hopefully you've also had your Nikon gear out, and found a subject that pleased you as much as that pup pleased me. Show your work!</p><div></div>

<p>Greetings everyone. </p>

<p>A nice day, last week. Late in the day I realized the light was getting very nice, but it was cold enough I didn't want to schlep down to the river or any of the usual scenic spots. So, I tried from up on the roof.</p>

<p>The sky was spectacular. This scene is from Beacon Hill (Boston), looking out over the Charles River Basin. The church steeples in the foreground are the Advent Church and the Charles Street Meeting House. Do you recognize the landmark which is visible down at the lower left?</p>

<p>Bracketing on today's cameras is nice. I picked the best exposure, made three conversion in ACR/Photoshop and blended by hand to preserve a little foreground detail, make the sky a little richer, and deal with the hot spot in the center. I still like film, but it sure is easier to do sunset images with today's digital!</p>

<p>Another Week – Another Macro & yet another Flower….<br /><br />I actually went to Home Depot (Hardware store with plants for those of you not in the US) & spent about $ 130.00 on plants this last week. Sure didn’t look like it was going to cost that much... :-( But with very few flowers in bloom in the garden I felt a little color would make us all happy. Kyrie however felt they all tasted very good as she aimed to eat them all. ;-) But that’s a puppy…..<br /><br />I’m still having too much fun doing Reversed Lens Macros, so that’s what I’m still working with. If anyone’s wondering why I choose to do my macros this very difficult way – well, it’s a very difficult way to create macros. But, it’s a rather light setup & you get to get very close to the subject. So much of it is the challenge I face with them. I also love how I can play with dof – stuff. In all this, they make me very happy when they work out & I don’t get discouraged when they don’t. Rare for me as I don’t have thick skin….<br /><br />Anyhow – back to my photo for this week. It’s another flower & I hope you’ll all enjoy. <br /><br /><strong>D300, 50mm AiS f/1.2, manual exposure, f/16, handheld, ISO 400, hand held & yes – I messed with the WB this time as well.</strong><br>

The city still has some of its' Olympic pride showing and it was awesome. This sight really spoke to me for many reasons...yes, the sky is overcooked....yes, the blur is funky...but you know....I am about to become a Canadian citizen and this view made me positively giddy!</p><div></div>

<p>My photo this week is a disused horse stables complex circa 1849 hand built of local basalt stone. It is on a property where I maintain the gardens and grounds every Friday. Photo is taken with a 16mm f/3.5 Ai fisheye lens, I find this lens quite good for this sort of super elongated frame when I have no time for a tri-pod and stitching and 17mm on my zoom does not cut it.</p><div></div>

<p>Happy Wednesday, everyone!<br /> I ran into this fifteen year old one eyed dog at the Frog Pond in Del Rey Oaks, CA. The owner told me that the dog needed to rest frequently, but she appeared quite alert. I took a photo of her to share with the owner.</p><div></div>

<p>Very nice stuff so far. This is my first effort at the Los Angeles Marathon a week ago Sunday. The route was just 2 blocks from my apartment so I decided to go out early, 7:30 am. Between my two D70s bodies, one with a new Tamron AF 17-50mm f2/8 VC, the other with a Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5/6 VR, I shot about 1500 images in about 3 hours. It took me awhile to edit them down.</p><div></div>

<p>So another Wednesday begins.<br />Here various flowers along the streets are showing off like crazy. On the road to my dauther's daycare this evening, I had fun trying to pick up some focus point in these fowers when the strong wind kept them dancing without a second of relaxation.</p><div></div>
