1. Sun (not Shun!) over the mountain
  2. The OMD EM5 mark 1 - yes, you can handhold at silly speeds; with a 28mm lens you might get some sharp pictures at 0.25-0.5 seconds handheld. I always take several at those speeds, as the IS increases the probability of, but does not guarantee, sharp shots. Focusing manual lenses - it's easy to set one of the customisable buttons to magnify part of the image, and so to use that to focus; the mark 1 does not have focus peaking. I have no idea about the EM5 mark 2.
  3. Laura - just a quick and very sincere thank you for your input over the last 4 years. You've made this forum meaningful, educational and fun - and attracted some very high quality contributions. I hope your life settles down to acceptable levels of pressure. If ever you're over this side of the pond, feel free to get in touch. Best wishes! (As for me - I'm so completely disenchanted with the new PNet that I'm unlikely to be posting much if anything. A real shame.)
  4. Excellent, both an excuse for an old image AND for a Sigma lens. From 10 years ago, D200 with Sigma 10-20.

  6.
Capsules of the moss Tortula.

  7. Beautiful light and place. Does the picture lack a central point of interest? Canisp (if it is Canisp) and the trees aren't quite strong enough to pull the eye from Suilven and the rainbow on opposite sides. Much better picture than I took when I was there a few Novembers ago!

    Storm waves

Superb: strongly emotive capture of a storm. Have you tried darkening the left-hand foreground a little to keep attention on the tree and central rock/waves?
  9.
Nice Christoph. A very ordinary spider from me - but in January?

  10.
Sanford - I've only had it a couple of weeks with mostly bad weather, but I'm impressed; it's certainly sharp at mid to far distances even fairly wide open (and at 5.6-11 it's excellent). I have not seen any significant CA (even looking for it) or field curvature. There are web reports saying it has faults, which may come down to copy-to-copy variation. It focuses fast, although I'm surprised that the Fuji XE1 refuses to focus on some low contrast subjects (eg clouds) that the Olympus EM5 would cope with easily. Overall - I'm delighted with it.

  11.
Ynysoedd y Ffridiau (which translates as Islands of the Fierce Flow) at full rip-tide. My wife, who is a sea paddler, treats this place with great respect. It looks quite different at high water slack.

  12.
Thanks Brian; have only recently acquired the Jupiter-11 but am seriously impressed; sharp even wide open (that pic is at f4) and nice smooth oof areas. And less than £50! Incidentally, that 10mm Samyang looks good in both tonality and sharpness (and colour).

  13.
Hope your back recovers Mukul (the joys of ageing?). Oak leaves senesced but still on the tree.
