  1. That's why I do the "Nikon Shuffle".
  2. Beautiful light meter and beautiful Kiev classic.
  3. Quirky, and superb optical and mechanical performance. And I love the craftsmanship of a Voigtlander. A superb, fine old quality camera. Which is an experience and an art to handle, use, and enjoy making images with. Thank you for sharing yours.
  4. I wish one day to meet you in person. Your Dad was apparently a wonderful person as was your Mom. Love the images you get with Minolta cameras and good old Ilford FP4+. A great British classic emulsion.
  5. Mike, and all, I deal with Cerebral Palsy, a left hip 1" shorter than my right. Muscle spasms which make taking pictures challenging, and as unpredictable as a bucking bull. A big reason why I stayed with manual, mechanical cameras and learned manual exposures with precision. And I embrace the hybrid workflow (scanned images, and I prefer on the whole to not manipulate them much in digital). I strive to learn from my mistakes new and old. When I need a given shutter speed, lesser is not an option. I hop around some of the time, push chairs some of the time, and also ride bicycles with a brace some of the time
  6. My birth year, Mike. Didn't get my license until I was 25, enjoy driving with hand controls, steering knob. And solving physical obstacles to get some nice photographs where they occur. My first car was a 1981 Pontiac LeMans wagon. My first great camera a late 1930's 4 x 4 cm Rolleiflex (uncoated Zeiss Jena Tessar and all, learned my Sunny 16 early). Began shooting Kodacolor 200 in 127.
  7. Thanks for sharing superb photos, Mike. I also enjoy seeing Mississippi and your family history. You're an excellent photographer, and like I've said previously, I wish I could have bought a Minolta and some lenses from you and your family. I feel like a little of you is present, when I take a photo with my SRT-201. Look forward to seeing some scanned images from the maiden 2 rolls of film soon. Thanks for keeping the passion alive, and your excellent posts.
  8. Looking at this image, makes me so excited at seeing the first film from my new to me Minolta SRT-201. Plan on dropping some film off Saturday at the lab and getting scans. Thanks for whetting my appetite.
  9. I favor Leica IIIf over Contax IIa, but love and admire both. Leica more reliable with age. Simpler mechanically.
  10. I used the Minolta SRT 201 with the 50/1.7 Rokkor-X and the dent on the side. Finished the roll of FujiColor 200, and shot part of the roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200. Had fun at an adaptive sports event in Lenoir City, Tennessee on Fort Loudon Lake. The Festival Of Friends. Didn't get to Sit-Ski (SI joint very inflamed, CP not playing nice). Did get to ride the Pontoon Boat, and take photos. Had a blast in spite of having to take precautions.
  11. My favorite Canons are the FTb, The mechanical F1, and the rangefinders. Hope it passes pre-purchase inspection, try a test roll of film before you do vacation pictures. Ask if you have a short trial period.
  12. The older and (more rugged) the Nikkor primes are, the better I like them. Helps with long term durability and reliability for me.
  13. I will be shooting the Minolta SRT 201 with the dent on the side this Saturday. I shot some flower photos with it last night. Or I will be using the Nikon FG with it's lenses. Or maybe even the Nikomat FTN. Have some Fujicolor negative film loaded, and a roll of 200 ISO Kodak ColorPlus next.
  14. I always called it "Do You Feel Lucky" film. "Did I shoot 23 frames of film, or did I shoot 24 frames of film."
  15. The only 35 mm rangefinder I know to exist, which makes Zeiss Contax IIIa look simple. Outdoes the Germans on complexity alone, and that takes derring-do. Beautiful USA mechanical engineering and optical art right here in this thread. Rara Avis!!!
  16. I will be shooting Minolta this weekend. Just got a SRT-201, 50 1.7 Minolta MD Rokkor-X, a Sigma Mini-Wide 35 2.8, and a Minolta flash unit. $40.
  17. The original Ricoh Singlex was definitely Ricoh mount (and also adapted for Nikon F mount as the Nikkorex, also sold as a rare Sears SL 11 version with Sears branded Nikon F mounted lenses, themselves rare). That original Ricoh SLR was designed by Mamiya (the Prismat) There was also a K-Mart version. of the Ricoh Singlex TLS, as a Focal. It's rare. Thanks for clarification. Ricoh made some very nice cameras (and still does today).
  18. A note: Asahi Pentax had one major innovation in Japanese cameras, the instant return mirror. Praktica, Exakta, and others got it later on.
  19. Ricoh Singlex TLS is not Cosina built, and an excellent camera. Better Cosina models are fine. I prefer Nikkormat build quality (and so would you if you had Cerebral Palsy, I've brassed up, dinged, and dented my fair share of cameras and fine lenses). I like old Rikenon and Nikkor Lenses. And prefer manual and mechanical.
  20. My first roll in a serious camera was Kodacolor 200 in 127 film format. 1938 Baby Rolleiflex (Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar). Jammed on me on Roll #2.
  21. There's the Rollei 35 (scale focus), the Kodak Retina 1(scale focus) and II series up to the small C, and the IIIc. Voigtlander Vito folders, the Zeiss-Ikon Contessa folder, just to name some. And there's the Olympus 35 RC. (the latter does not have metering in manual)
  22. Agree highly. My old Nikkormat FTn is as well built as any F. And dependable, faithful, and loyal.
  23. I've taken some nice improv photos on UltraMax 400. Not the best film, but OK. Sometimes with my muscles with no off switch (Cerebral Palsy and athetosis does this often). The extra ISO does wonders and increases my odds of good photos. Shutter speeds for me matter highly. We make what we have work when a picture flashes in front of us.
  24. Another superb image. I enjoy seeing your work, and photography relaxes me, it's also physical therapy for this wheelchair using, spastic, street shooter.
  25. I shot around 7 frames of Fujicolor Superia 400 in my Olympus 35RC about 2 hours ago. Flower pictures in the garden I share with my Mom.
