  1. Once screwed in, the ring that extends from the lens is approximately 2.5mm in thickness (ie. measuring the thickness of the filter not including the thread for mounting on the lens). No I haven't (and don't have a digital camera for a quick check), but I'm not sure in the end that I want to use it without a filter. I use UV and skylight filters on all my lenses. Unless your Nikon filters are much slimmer, I think the hood must be at fault. Thanks a again
  2. Thanks Vincent. I have been mounting the hood on the filter and not the other way around. Do you know if the filter can be screwed into the front of a real HN-1? I wonder if the filter and the way that the hood is mounted, that is problem.
  3. Hello, Got some film scans back with images using a Nikkor Auto 24mm f/2.8 lens, a UV filter and a HN-1 hood. The shots were heavily vignetted. The filter is a Hoya slim-profile model and the HN-1 is a Chinese copy. If the hood were original, would I expect vignetting with this combination? Would I need to not use a filter, even with an original HN-1? Thanks!

  6. And the Soviet cameras: Zorky and Kiev. Although the former might lead you down the slippery slope towards Leica (as might Canon) and the latter to Contax.

  8. Testing a new camera, a Leica IIIf, with a short roll of Ilford Delta 100. The lens is a Summicron 5cm f/2. Not such exciting photos and the light was a bit harsh, but at least the camera works!:
  9. Thanks very much BeBu Lamar, that's a big help!
  10. Hello! I wear glasses and would like to get a diopter for my Nikon F2 (and FE). I have an F5 on loan at present. With the built-in variable diopter in the zero position (and wearing no glasses), I need to turn the dial 4 clicks in the clockwise direction to get the best focus. According to the F5 manual the diopter has a continuous range from –3 to +1. Does anyone know what 4 clicks in the clockwise direction corresponds to on this scale? (The F5s variable dial has a maximum of 6 clicks in both clockwise and anticlockwise directions) Thanks!
  11. Impressive! I think the following was taken with a 24mm lens.... Nikon F2 Photomic, Nikkor-N.C Auto 24mm f/2.8, Ilford Delta 100, Kodak D-76:

  13. Brilliant! Thanks very much Michael and Sandy, that's made it very clear. All the best!
  14. Hello, I have a Nikkor 35-70 AF 1:2.8 D for which I'd like to purchase a lens hood. I gather the Nikon HB-1 is the one to get. From the photos I see online it seems to have some kind of bayonet mount. Does this allow the hood to be mounted on a lens with filter attached? My lens is away presently having a service so unfortunately I can't take a close look at it to see how the mount might work without a filter. Thanks, all the best!
  15. Photos taken on Lake Paranoá in Brasilia. Nikon F5, Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8 AF D, Kodak ProImage 100. The lens was kindly given to me by a photographer friend. It has seen a hard life. The front element is badly scratched and I'm thinking of having it polished as the images are not as sharp as I think they should be - although they're still good I think. Will lose the coating of course...
  16. Looks similar to a problem I'm having with my contax iia at top speed. It has a vertical shutter. I posted 2 photos on another forum here: Contax IIA shutter problem at 1/1250
  17. Some close-up studies with a not-so-classic Nikon F5 that I'm lucky to have on long-term loan. Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 Ais and Kodak ProImage 100 film:

  21. Photos from Rio de Janeiro city and state with a Contax IIA, Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 50mm f/2 collapsible and Kodak ProImage 100 and Tri-X 400 film. The lines on the black and white seem to be due to the scanner and are not on the negative. For some reason the colour photos, scanned on the same machine, don't seem to show these marks:

  23. Two shots with a Minox 35 GT and some cheap B&W film that I bought earlier last year. The film is rated at 400 ISO but seems to work best at ISO 25. The first photo was taken at 25 and the second at 100 (and with more tweaking done on the second image to make it look presentable). Lines due to scanning:
  24. Always really beautiful results from this Zeiss 25/2 lens!
