  1. I wonder if this means I can get values beyond +20. Will try this later.
  2. Thanks Dieter. Yes the default fine adjustment is set to zero. If in manual mode I focus through the viewfinder, it is also in focus in live view and vice versa, of course. The green dot however does not show. I have to turn the lens a little further (and this put the image out of focus) towards infinity.
  3. Hi, I've not used autofocus on my D610 very much before and have noticed a problem. The Nikkor AF 35-70 1:2.8D I have is focusing behind the desired focal point. I've tried fine adjustment of the autofocus but none of the values work (yes it is switched on). Strangely, autofocus works perfectly well if live view is selected. Does anyone know what might be happening here? Unfortunately I have no other autofocus lens to test. Thanks,

  5. Thanks to you both. Yes, I have actually tested the mic recording directly in front and at various distances - the results are much the same although worse of course from behind. Yesterday evening I spoke on the phone with the technician and he assured me that this really is the sound the these devices produce. So I will live with it (although my mobile phone does a much better job!) and it comes as something of a relief to know the camera is working as it should. I have a project coming up that involves video and it's the first time I'll be doing the video capture for such a project myself - although not sound, which I've worked with for many years. I have DPA lapel mics that I'll use for this project and a Tascam DR-680 for audio recording. I plan to use the inbuilt mic of the camera as a register to help with post-synchronisation. I'll delete the video clips that I posted above. All the best,
  6. Thanks. Well that sounds much better than what I'm getting. It's been well more than 30 years since I played with any regularity but I happen to have a violin lying around :) https://vimeo.com/500146380 I think something is definitely wrong with the mic. Perhaps it got wet at some point.
  7. D610 and 35-70mm AF 1:2.8 D. Taken last night.
  8. Hi Forum, I was here a little while back about a D610 that I bought used with a non-functioning internal mic. In the end and after negotiating with the seller, I took it to get fixed. The mic now works but I find the sound quality really appalling. I sent a message to the technician who said that this is normal but that I could bring the camera back. Here is a link to the video test that I sent to the technician. Can the internal mic really sound this bad? https://vimeo.com/499735327 Thanks!
  9. Hello, I bought a used D610 recently which has presented with a fault and I'm in the process of returning it for a refund. Before it's finalised, I'd like to check that there's not some problem with the configuration. I don't imagine there is, but here I am. The fault is as follows: When recording video there is no audio capture with the internal microphone, just noise is recorded to file, not hiss but a rhythmic electromechanical type noise (sounds a bit like an old film projector). I've tested with both cpu and manual lenses mounted. The noise occurs whether the mic is set to automatic or manual level control. The noise shows up strongly on the video configuration's input level meters. When an external mic is inserted, audio recording does however seem to be working. I think there is a hardware fault with the internal mic. But I'd like to know if someone can offer any suggestions as to what's wrong. Could there be something I missing in the configuration? Thanks
  10. Thanks for the explanation. I may consider trying the ES-E28 and adapting. The ES-2 looks excellent but because of the dreadful exchange rate here, works out to be quite expensive. But as a next step, I'll most likely try to find a better light source, as you suggested initially, since the results I'm getting now are far from bad, just a little hit and miss on some negatives due to my eyesight, I think. All the best,
  11. I found your post here: DSLR negative scanning and you mention that the ES-E28 has a 28mm thread, if I understood correctly. So would the following adapter be the thing to get? : https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Step-Down-Filter-Adapter-Step-Down/dp/B01870J6E0
  12. Thanks very much Rodeo Joe. So is this second rig a PK-13 + Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8 with a Nikon ES-E28? If so, does it mount on a 52mm thread?
  13. Hi Forum, I recently purchased a Nikon D610 and I've started using it to digitise 35mm and 120 negatives and transparencies with a Micro-Nikkor 55mm 1:2.8 Ais and PK extensions. I find that I'm having difficulty getting good focus - or at least, when I make several attempts on the same negative, I've noticed the results can be varied. I've actually got better results using the optical viewfinder rather than with the screen and high zoom values. But then, fine-focus is a bit of a guess. I wonder if there is an optical magnifier that might be suitable for the camera or if people have any other tips? And yes, I'm locking up the mirror and using a timer to to take the shots to avoid camera shake. I've also been setting the aperture at f8. Should I close down more? The light source is a Samsung tablet at a distance of about 5cm. At this distance I see no pixels. Thanks!
  14. Very helpful Ed. Thanks very much. I'll look into the Sony cameras. Price wise, and I'll be purchasing used, the A7ii might be an option. I'll weigh it up against the Nikons. All the best,
  15. Hello, I have experience with 35mm film cameras and none whatsoever with digital SLRs. I have a number of manual Nikkors that I'd like to use with video on a full-fame digital Nikon. I have in mind a D610. While this is full-frame for stills, I read somewhere once that video is not full-frame. I've not been able to find that source since. Is this true, can I expect cropping of the image? If so, are there other similarly economical models that do offer full frame video? I'll even consider non-Nikon cameras if adapters are an option (bearing in mind it will need to work with an AF 35-70mm 1:2.8 Nikkor as well as the manuals). Thanks, Iain

  18. Thanks for this suggestion, hadn't come across this Zeiss 427 finder before and looks like a good option.
  19. Thanks. I have a KMZ rotating turret finder which I find cumbersome and also it has an alignment problem. I might have a look a the Leica ones but from what I remember, having looked through one once, the 50mm mask makes for a fairly constricted view. The SBOOI would be ideal, unfortunately there's a big problem with the exchange rate....
  20. Wanted: A Leitz SBOOI or other 50mm external viewfinder at a good price. Thanks,
  21. Dear all, I have a KMZ Universal Turret Finder which unfortunately is inclined slightly in an anticlockwise direction (photos appear inclined to the right). It does this on all cameras I've tried so I don't believe there's a problem with the mounts on the cameras. Does anyone know if the finder can be adjusted? All the best,
  22. Thanks all. I ended up getting a a simple 1/4" to 3/8" adaptor along with a couple of other widgets I was needing. All the best,
  23. I know a good tech in Ukraine that restored my Contax iii. Even got the light meter working. Let me know if you'd like contact.
  24. Hello, I have a Contax III that needs an insert in the tripod fitting for use with a modern tripod. The thread looks to be 3/8". Is it a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter that I need? Thanks,
