Still no change trying to post from my original 1997 account.

I sure do miss my uncle's slide shows...the sound of the projector fan running, potty breaks between carousels! Starting around 2003 I bought a few of Nikon's AF cameras when prices dropped significantly, though I still paid a lot considering you can hardly GIVE one away today. I enjoyed using an N90s but never really warmed up to it because of the grip (sans MB-10, which I did eventually purchase). I also have N70 and N8008s bodies and their similar shape but smaller profile felt better to me. I still have a bunch of slide film in the freezer...time to exercise those old motors! Eric Sande

Somewhere in a box I have the old "Getting the Most from your Nikon F5" VHS tape and now remember a segment showing it hooked up to a chunky laptop. I hadn't heard of Meta35 until this thread - given that you can hardly give away a '90s AF camera it's nice that someone has made them usable to their fullest extent again. Eric Sande

Someone started a thread a long time about about what your favorite time in your development as a photographer was. Mine was about 1 year into the whole thing when I had one film body, 28-80mm & 80-200mm lenses and a Bogen tripod that was actually a pain to carry around. No one is immune to the lure of more gear but, with only a couple "upgrades" (20mm prime and then 17-35mm zoom), I was perfectly set up with much less. Former photo.net member Eric Sande

No responses in almost 4 weeks, so I'll suggest contacting KEH Camera and see what they might do. I had a lens collar replaced on a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D back in 2003. It took a long time to get it back; don't know what turnaround is like these days. KEH currently has flat-rate pricing for repairs. Zoom lens rate is $235. Repair

I've purchased one camera - a discontinued Nikon D7000 in December 2014. I was considering the 7100 until I found the 7000 on Amazon for $525 (~1/2 the price). On the day it was out for delivery I found that the price had dropped to $475 so I immediately contacted Amazon and they refunded $50. I do enjoy buying from B&H, though - been a customer for 20 years.

I enjoyed Popular Photography since the day I bought an SLR from my brother in 1997; I've maintained a subscription over the years because it was so inexpensive (I didn't even realize it was all over and I'd been paying $5.00/year for awhile). Since digital dominated I didn't really read much of the content. Used to love Herbert Keppler's segments, Bob Krist's travel columns...Krist was at Outdoor Photographer for awhile but even his website/blog hasn't been updated in awhile. The forum at PopPhoto.com was great for a few years as well - I recently found all my posts/comments in the archive. Fun to be able to find all that stuff. I recently tossed a huge pile of magazines from 2008-present in the recycling bin. I don't think I'll miss those but I'd love to have some of Popular Photography when I first got into photography in 1997 with the 10(?) pages of B&H, etc. at the back and a full page of film choices.

Back when I first got into using rechargeable batteries (Sanyo Eneloop in 2010), I had an underexposed roll using my F5. I'd posted about it here under my old account (which is having problems now) and someone suggested that they may have been the culprit. I'm sure people that like to test batteries would like to argue about it, but I went back to using Energizer alkaline and lilthium and left the rechargeables to things that didn't matter so much and may drain during non-use.

I don't recall ever reading about problems with the F4 mis-reading the DX coding on a film cassette, but from day one when I bought an F4s in 2003 I always set it manually. The only way to confirm that the camera is reading the cassette properly is if you have a flash with LCD attached.

Well, since no one else has responded I'll say that I'm not sure there was a way to download any info from the MF-28 back. I didn't do a bunch of research before posting, but I believe its main purpose was putting information on the film in an analog fashion. The F6 had a data back that could transfer exposure information to a CF card, if I remember correctly.

As of August I will have been around for 20 years as well. Don't know what's wrong with my original account; I can log in but can't post anything. I get an error message saying "Please enter a valid name". I shouldn't turn this into any kind of gripe session, but I miss the old look as well as the type of discussions when film was king. I enjoyed trying different types of film over different post-processing software tools.

I created a new account (been on photo.net for nearly 20 years) just so I could ask about this problem. I haven't been able to post anything for awhile because I get an error notice saying Please enter a valid name. Anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?
