I remember Brian Mottershead, a former Editor, saying the average number of members logged on was 600 and the number of visitors (unregistered users or registered users not logged in) was much more. To get an idea of how vibrant the site was look at the POTW discussions from about 2002-2006 (if it’s possible).

i find the easiest way to filter stuff is to only watch the forums i am interested in. My entry point into PN is my Watched Forum List*. If a forum has new posts, the forum name will be in bold. Once in awhile I’ll click on New Posts but as you mentioned that list has posts on stuff I am not normally interested in. * https://www.photo.net/discuss/watched/forums

Fred, I’m sorry, but that sounds so weak. This place had collapsed before you joined, and participation has been falling ever since. I could find posts from 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, etc that also claim interest has dwindled. People stop participating for all sorts of reasons and but I think it is mainly because it is so repetitive.

imho, fwiw, good photography* is not a function of (lat,long). i would recommend taking whatever kit you use at home on any trip you are planning to undertake. (of course, i appreciate the idea of buying new kit because you are going on a trip. i do it all the time :-)) * by this I mean stuff you are going appreciate personally
