Nice light and lovely colours. Slightly tighter crop on the left to loose the two darker areas would have helped this compositionally I think.
  2. Great portrait! Lovely textures from the dirty window. This really could be a stunner with just a little work in post, so much potential.

    Beyond Sunset

Hey Sandra. There are the makings of a great photo here. I like the framing and choice of subject, and the time of day you shot is of course perfect for this type of shot. I'm not sure if it was your intention to have the foreground silhouetted, or whether this was just a natural consequence of the exposure required for the sky and water, but if not, you could try taking two exposures, one exposed for the water, and one for the foreground, and then blending them in Photoshop. Alternatively, you could shoot a minimum of three exposures and merge them to HDR. When this is not desired, or possible, then I would recommend a more balanced exposure. Your shot is ( and with this type of shot it is highly subjective) a little underexposed. Regardless of my personal predilection, if you had lengthened the exposure a little, just enough so that none of the highlights are blown (see histogram when shooing), you would have had more material to work with. Also, when taking this approach, you must shoot raw, as then, when processing the better exposed image, you will have so much more leeway with creativity. Try experimenting with different exposure lengths. You said you used 30sec, but to me this looks like a much shorter exposure, as 30sec normally results in almost totally silky water. I like that here there is still some detail. Even an exposure of just 1sec can create some really cool effects, and can, as you stated that you wanted to do, capture the movement of the water, especially when the exposure is timed with the waves! It also means that at this time of day, you don't have to use a filter! The sky looks a lot lighter in the section around and behind the tree, is this a result of post processing? What do you use in post? Which techniques? I hope some of this helped, but the best advice that I can give is to just keep shooting, especially at locations such as above!

    "TIME-IN"

Really evocative, of joy, and freedom. I feel happy. Thanks!

    Moby Dick

Nicely balanced, very pleasing on th eye.

    Dreamy-morning

Indeed, this image is very dreamlike; the boats seem to lie on the border of sleep themselves.

    Klara through a window

Fantastic portrait. So direct and yet also reserved, knowing that this was shot through a window only adds to that sense of remove. Love the combination of soft tones with high contrast. Great shot.

I've just uploaded a shot from almost the same location! Lovely light at this time of year (and really very warm) and this shot captures it well. Just a shame there was no mist...

…or a small narrow boat traversing a lake covered in duckweed. Nice abstract.

A really arresting image here. Simple, nautical, well seen.

I think I prefer this one. The movement of the water around the rock and it's colours provide a pleasant sweeping curve to lead the eye into the image. I love the cyans here, and the sky's colour is great, and although perhaps not completely faithful, it complements the image perfectly. The lighthouse seems to lean right with distortion.

    Dark Mountain

Lovely high contrast, low key and moody shot here. I love the contrasting tones and textures between the sky and ground. Would not have thought of using a square crop, but it works well.

I like the atmosphere here, a nice addition to the series.

    Kobi

An interesting portrait, well lighted and with an interesting, presumably added, background. For me there are three elements to this shot; the background, the clothes and the models expression. The clothes and the background tie in nicely, but the expression, to me anyway, seems a little off for this shot, a little too knowing, too arch, but that of course is just my impressions. This pic really stood out for me however. Thanks

Very nicely done and well controlled long daytime exposure. Great detail front to back, lovely image.
  17. I have to second everything Christoph says. This really is a fantastic image, especially the colours, but it does seem framed in such a way as to include the sun, when it does seem to unbalance the image and is a little distracting. Really great long exposure though. And, on closer look, is the horizon slanting slightly right, could just be me! Thanks
  18. fantastic image, beautifully rendered and toned. So simple yet so engrossing.

    Middle Rock

I like this image Mark, particularly the colours and texture, especially the texture. It has something otherworldly about it, the rocks in the foreground like a giant beast rising out of the water. I would have lost the horizon in order to have made more of this aspect and to detach the image further from reality. One question, the rocks top right look very soft, even more so than the clouds in the far distance. Is this a quirk of processing, or just soft edges from a wide lens wide open?
  20. Great image. Really pleasing composition.

    West Pier

Hey Jed, lovely shot. As you say, the sunset colours have really given you a spectacular colour palette to work with. I love the oh so tiny speck of metal that pokes out of the silken water in the fg! I moved from Brighton To Germany a while ago, it looks like the pier has lost a lot mor metal since I was last there. Did you get to see the record low tides recently?

    magical land

Great shot. I love the muted dark blues and cyans. It's a really interesting colour palette that fits and creates a sorrowful mood. The reds and yellows of the model's face really draw the eye to her sad expression.
  23. Fantastic picture The textures, the shadow, the colours, the positioning, the framing, and the light. All perfect. Really really like this photo! Thanks
