  1. If your camera is still under waranty return it for servicing. If the waranty has expired, get an estimate for repairs. The S8200 is highly rated in its category. If all pictures have this problem and there is no filter or other object between the camera and the subject, the camera is broken.
  2. If needed, you can download the user manual: http://www.butkus.org/chinon/bronica.htm
  3. Since the Epson Store says "out of stock" (not discontinued) and there is a " notify me" to be informed when it beomes available button, the situation appears to be temporary. The demand for double-sided paper is probably low and not very predictable, so they don't make it in large quantities or very often.
  4. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. Squares are a subset of rectacngles. Headshots are a subset of portraits All posed photos of human beings (whether an individual, a couple or a group) are portraits. They may be full-lenhth, bust or head shots. None of these distinctions has anything whatsover to do with copyright or usage rights granted by the photographer.
  5. Fowler is a prescriptive grammarian, which makes him a close ally of English teachers, who often like to impose absolute rules on their students. Apparently the author and proofreader of the 13th amendment did not share Fowler's opinion. "Article XIII (Amendment 13 Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Nota bene: United States...THEIR jurisdiction.
  6. Owen, the following link is to a page about California thar covers your situation with Adorama as a fulfilment agent. See section 5. http://blog.taxjar.com/sales-tax-for-california/ Also, have checked to see if California has an exemption for small vendors? In my jurisdiction, we have a valued added tax system. A small vendor (annual gross sales under $30,000) is not required to collect sales tax but in return cannot deduct any sales tax he has paid to his suppliers.
  7. Here is a long list of photographer's who trained at Spéos, with links to their Websites. http://www.speos-photographers-map.com You could look at some of them and then send an email to several whose work intersts you, and ask them how useful Spéos was.
  8. When a person does not have a PayPal account, he or she must go directly to the PayPal site and use the send money option. The payee then gives the supplier's email address. PayPal verifies the the address belongs to a PayPal account holder and then processes the payment, using the payee's credit card information. In this case, the transaction is initiated directly by the payer, NOT by a referal from the supplier's Website.
  9. The payer does NOT have to have a PayPal account to pay a supplier of goods and services by using a credit card on the PayPal site. Only the supplier (photographer, in this case) has to have a PayPal account. As soon as the credit card transaction is approved, PayPal deducts a fee from the total amount and the remainder is immediately deposited in the supplier's PayPal account. The supplier can use the money later to pay purchases made on other Internet sites that accept Paypal transactions or the supplier can have all or some of the money transferred to his or her regular bank account.
  10. To see all the images available, click on Store in menu bar at the top of each pn page and then click on *Canvas to see thumbnails. Photo Net is a place where photographers discuss their craft, not a place where people looking for prints are likely to come.
  11. I second (or third) the suggestion of a versatile point and shoot like a Canon Power Shot. A child of 8 years can start in full auto mode with manual zoom. As time goes on, and if the interest is there, he can experiment and learn the various manual modes. Unless this particular boy is ahead of his age group, a full, advanced DSLR kit could more than he is ready to handle.
  12. There is a Website that explains how to make hierarchy-based keyword lists for Lightroom. Several versions of full lists are offered for sale, The main difference in the versions is whether a geographical subset is included. Each list costs $39. http:://www.photo-keywords.com/
  13. What are proofs? sixty years ago, photographers presented clients with proof pictures printed on special paper; images would last for a few weeks and then fade. Then for a few decades proofs were made with the same paper and chemistry as the finished prints (...). Now proofs are usually in digital form - on a website, CD, DVD, or a projection in the photographer's studio. Typically, now, you initially view the images on a computer or television screen. You then order from the screen and have photographic prints in your hand a few weeks later. Source: http://www.ekfoto.com/question.htm Unless specifically stipulated in the contract the photographer is NOT reqired to give you every picture he or she took or to give you negatives or computer files that you can later process in a real or digital (computer) darkroom to retouch photos or to make additional prints.
  14. The idea is interesting, but $89.95 seems a bit steep for a file with 5,500 Keywords.
  15. If you haven't read the original thread from two weeks ago, please read it now. http://www.photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00d3Sx As I and several others commented, clogging is not a problem with all Epson models. Many infrequent users have no problems with the 3800 and 3880 models. Progress has been made in printer reliability.
  16. The question to ask a lawyer is whether your contractural obligation to allow the photographer to use the images gives the photographer the right to use your name and other identifying words. I am not a lawyer but it seems to me that using the images should not include using your name. If the photographer wanted to be a nice person, he or she would remove the photos and your personal info, even though he probably has the right to continue using the images (but not, I think, to use your name).
  17. You might be interestd in a software fieldguide that works with iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows. iBird.com
  18. Unless you're Richard Avedon and the celebrity chef is Emerill, this train has already left the station. Generally, book publishers have a standard contract and rate. They aren't interested in negotiating. If you're not willing to sign on the dotted line, they will go to the next name on their list.
  19. Frequent clogging seems to be closely related to which Epson model one has. I have a 3880 and no clogging problems although it is not used more than about once a month. There are lots of messages here on PNet that say Epson clogging problems are fewer on newer models in general and on the 3880 in particular. Someone suggested that low ambient humidity can be a factor. I keep my humidity around 50%. I can't really say that helps my 3880, but my nose certainly "clogs" and dries out much less. (Occasional condensation on windows in winter doesn't bother me -- my nose, throat and lungs are more important to me than water damage to window sills.) To close with a gratuitous comment: Why would you pay $1,600 to replace the circuit board on a used, problem-prone printer that cost $2,000?
  20. Perhaps this thread will help: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/cropping-pictures-diagonally-in-photoshop.1278026/
  21. You say, "As far as I can tell all the shutter speeds I set the camera to, including bulb, fire at the same rate." Does the camera have fresh batteries in it? In the Bronica SQ line, shutter speed is electrically controlled. On some models, if batteries are discharged or missing, the shutter will fire at 1/500 s. Regardless of setting.
  22. Is the bike company right? NO! Consider the analogy of a wedding photographer who posts wedding pictures on his facebook page. Can he be sued by the companies that fabricated the church pews, altar, organ, windows, and vestments? As for the people on the bikes, their ages are unimportant. You do not need a release for non-commercial use of pictures taken in a public place or a private place open to the public.
  23. The output should be 24V at 1.1A. See the manual: https://files.support.epson.com/pdf/pr449p/pr449ppg.pdf
  24. A New York woman has been awarded $1.12 million in damages after being arrested back in 2009 while taking photographs outside a military base. Those are compensatory damages. Now the jury must decide on the punitive damages to be added to the award. The Guardian reports that in July 2009, 58-year-old Nancy Genovese was photographing a display helicopter outside the Gabreski Airport Air National Guard in Long Island for a “Support Our Troops” website. She was confronted by a deputy, who allegedly told her that he would arrest her on suspicion of terrorism. http://petapixel.com/2014/12/12/woman-awarded-1-12m-arrested-taking-photos-outside-military-base/
  25. Hi Allen, The motorized grip is not very heavy and makes the camera much easier to hold if you are not using WLF. There ia a short adjustable strap over the part you grip. You put your hand between the strap and the grip so that your hand is firmly held. That way, the camera is very easy to hold both in shooting posions and when your hand is down by your side.
