    Soft Snow Shadows

Interesting subject matter.   I find that tension is produced when the juxtaposition of the subject and the environment don't mesh.  This is not how we usually envision the two elements.  You've one-upped me on my similar version.  Best, Len.

The back lighting and semi-silhouetted person adds an element of drama to this one. Must be cold (windy at least) for the person appears to be holding the coat closed for protection. Very nicely composed. Best, Len.
  4. Would have been funnier had the chicken been a hawk. :-) Love the sky rendition. Best, Len.

    "X" Marks the Spot

I just uploaded this 2012 capture. Sat on it for four years, that's probably why you thought you'd missed it. It was a spur of the moment, true grab-shot. Saw the bird & couldn't resist the shot. In my answer to Alf, above, I've included a version incorporating his suggestions on improving the original post. Compare & see if you agree that the new one is better. Best, Len.
  7. I found a similar shot from a different season in my 'keeper' file. Best, LM

    Blizzard

Looks like you have two males contemplating a move on another male & his mate. You did well in composing to get all four in the frame. Not sure of the lens you were using but I'll bet you wished you had a longer one for more intimate details. I only get, and rarely at that, one Cardinal at a time. Never had the opportunity you had here. I envy you. Best, LM.

  10. Thanks for your vote of confidence & for pointing out other possibilities. I do get back there from time to time so I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. :-) Best, Len.

    Eco Park Detail

After hiding from winter 'till now I decided to embrace it by visiting a new eco park. This was one of my results. Thanks for taking the time. Best, Len.
  12. Thanks for your visit & comment. It has improved since I ran it through PSE. :-) Best, LM.

    Piers at Sunset

Nice return for your investment. With just a few elements you've created an interesting shot. As it stands, compositionally, I think it would be wise to crop horizontally near the bottom of the closest piling. I feel that the lost foreground would be acceptable as the foreground elements have less of interest than the patterns in the sky area. This would elevate the horizon line from it's less desirable central location and also satisfy the rule of thirds. Always willing to learn, I invite views to the contrary. Best, LM.

Yes, it's best viewed 'Larger'. The pond was frozen over with a fresh dusting of snow. Thanks for your visit. Best, Len.

    A Garage in Keyport

Firemen have too much time on their hands. :-) But this guy has talent! Cute idea to spruce up an otherwise (likely) drab garage. I think I would have stopped to photograph it too. Good decision. Best, Len.
  17. Right or wrong, my artistic bent is to crop out the wall on the right. I also agree with Tatjana's & Wolfgang's opinions. You motivate me at a time when I need motivation to get out & capture what's in my neighborhood. Best, Len.

  19. This was one of the first shots taken with my new D5100. The camera and lens have seldom disappointed me, and then the fault was likely mine. Thanks for the follow-up. Best, Len.

    "X" Marks the Spot

The elevated viewpoint was an observation tower staircase. I was on my way back down when I spotted the bird & made a hasty composition. Swallows don't sit still for too long in my experience. Best, Len.

    "X" Marks the Spot

Yah, it needs the bird, and as Alf says, the people & bridge. I had time only for two shots, this one is my favourite. Thanks for your support. Best, Len.
  22. Whoops! Almost missed you there. Thanks for your visit & your comment. Always welcome. Best, Len.
  23. Nature is something we can't beat. May as well learn to enjoy it. Best, Len.
  24. It was a mild day, thus the hazy atmosphere. Thought it worth a frame or two. Best, Len.
