Façades. The building with its fake stone covering hiding the raw steel and weld marks built by corporate America and capitalism with materials mined from the earth and built on the back of migrants, the young lady hides behind her wide brimmed hat wearing a uniform of the time gifted to her by a society shaping her body and mind to fit in useless shoes, I'm left wondering, where is her purse?

I've been working with longer exposures using a Pro Stop ND filter. This
was at a favorite shooting spot. Exposure was 30 seconds.
Thanks for looking. C and C welcome

There are too many elements to be examined. Moving through and looking at the elements then takes me into questioning... "is it in focus or not". My brain was chattering like a cheap lens in low light hunting for focus.
On a technical note: while the background is altered, the image of the background in the water drop is not.

<<<I'm frequently puzzled by the Elves choices. I look at a POW and after a time I go to the artists portfolio and find what I think are much better pieces.>>>
---Possible puzzle solution: The elves are not picking anyone's best photo or even necessarily a good photo. They are picking a photo they think will make for a photography discussion and critique, which would sometimes be a bad photo, a photo we can learn from.---
Fred, I'm sure that is it... I'm just hung up on expecting elves to behave a certain way. Having said that, it is obvious I know nothing of elves or their behaviors. -
I'm frequently puzzled by the Elves choices. I look at a POW and after a time I go to the artists portfolio and find what I think are much better pieces. This is the case here.
I know what I like... and it isn't this. Why? Possibly because the palate doesn't stimulate my interest. There is also an odd continuous lighting or lack of contrast. The overall feel is that the image is overcooked in some odd way.
The structure in the upper left has some type of new white tanks or silos sticking out of the roof that distracts me. Although I'm left wondering what they are I don't think that was the intended purpose of the artist. If I was allowing myself to alter an image I'd remove them.
The framing of the elements is awkward and not balanced.
The photo.net Eleves continue to baffle me....

I'm critiquing without having read any other comments. I find I get lost when reading what others have to say.
I like the simplicity and the stillness. I am however feeling little else. I don't like the title as I see more than 3 trees although 3 are more noticeable. I'd like to be there but this image doesn't take me there. I will say I am baffled by the choice of this image. The photographer has many others in the gallery I think are much nicer.

Richard

A play on words... Bath in Bath. Bath... better known as Berkley Springs, WV is the location. At the end of this canal is one of the bath houses.
I was up early one morning with the sun yet to rise and a fair amount of fog around town when I walked through the small state park and shot this. The steam rising up from the 74 degree water made for a nice effect.
C and C welcome.
Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks to all who have rated this photo. It was taken during an afternoon magic hour trip to this spot which is a couple of miles from the house and a frequented place for me. My workflow was LR 4 to Silver Effex Pro II back to LR and on to CS5 for resizing and saving as jpeg. There were many tweaks in Silver Effex but nothing drastic..

This image was gathered up quite quickly. I was driving along highway 58 in
Virginia outside of Suffolk and was scanning the environment during the
magic hour. I wasn't looking for a subject. I was looking for light... chasing
the light. It came to me in my peripheral vision but it was strong enough to
stimulate a change of lanes and a U turn to go back. I pulled into a driveway
and grabbed the ever present camera which happened to have the perfect
lens attached for this image. In less than a minute I hammered out about 10
images right before the sun fell below a line of cloud obscuring the light.
Seize the moment!
Shot in Raw and processed in Lightroom and then into Silver Effex Pro and
back to LR. This is a FF image without cropping.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Gail. This was the last picture I took of Frank on my boat fishing. He was having a rough time of it that day dealing with a cancer that eventually took him away at age 55.

I shot this from the freshly painted front porch. The furniture was moved here and waited for the job to finish. I shoot hundreds of pictures from the front porch. Sometimes I'll randomly move a chair to see things differently. I look for the light. Sometimes I take coffee.. sometimes a cigar.. sometimes both. It is always different even though I see the same. The light is always different. The exercise has taught me to judge the number of stops between shade and highlights. I can tell when it is likely to exceed the sensors capabilities. I'll take different lenses for different looks. As I write this I realize I should devote a folder to porch shots. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the positive comments to all. A couple of things that made this what it is: This spot is in my yard and there is about a 1/4 acre of wild flowers (and weeds). I went out because the light was right and set up to shoot so whatever came into range would have decent light. I was shooting with a 300mm and extension tubes to give a very easy working distance. I shot from a tripod.

Thank you Gail. These guys would light on the flower and make one quick walk in a circle and go on to another.

I shot this with the 300 2.8 IS and some extension tubes. It gives me a very nice working distance and decent results. C and C welcome. Thanks for looking.
Don't forget to view Large..

Richard, thanks for the kind comments. I quite enjoy this one and would myself rate it a 6. (I rarely see a 7 or make a 7) One obvious reason it doesn't rate higher is it lacks breasts and cuteness!

C and C welcome. I put this in the "Street" category as I spotted this while
driving around Berkeley and shot this about 10 feet from the street. I had a
choice of shooting through chain link or the coiled barbed wire and chose the
barbed wire for effect. I have no idea who made the sculptures but I thank
them for their great work.

Larry, thanks for the complement. I was actually walking around saying over and over in my head.. "look for the light". I would find it... compose.. shoot.

Michael, your rendition is very close to my image for printing. For whatever reason when I uploaded to photo.net there was a change in the image to what you see. I'm not sure why. Thanks.
Look how the image appears in Flickr... very close to your processing (great mind think alike)

I found myself wishing I had my tripod with me as light was getting low.
Regardless, it was a wonderful walk. Thanks for comments. Thanks for
looking.

It is nice.
I don't see it as a visual treat.. more like a salt free snack.
