I've been scanning the critique forum looking for something different... I found it.  Perhaps a woman crossing the road is common but in this image she is out of her element.  Maybe she is looking down to appreciate the texture of the road but more likely just to navigate in her heals.  Very nice.... very different.

  1. C + C is very welcome. I've been exploring post processing and

although I'm constantly searching I really like this tritone method. I

have mixed thoughts on the border with my writing.... Thoughts? This

scene was quite spectacular in person.. Shot at 30mm with the 24-

    70. Thanks for looking. Richard

It appears there is a lot of dust on your sensor.  (unless this is a scanned print or some other method) I would get that cleaned up.  Yes... the spots should be removed.  I think overall a wider view would work better.

  2. Michael,

The car we were in was a special car with seating upstairs and dining down.  The observation was at the back of our car.   My vantage point is higher than the cars seen and I cropped out the side of our car which makes it look almost like I was off the train and above it as it went around the turn.

Here is a look at one of the trains we were on and you can see the 2nd car back from the engine is much higher.

The Alaska Railroad is a fantastic ride and although the Goldstar service is a bit over twice the fare for the regular cars it is fantastic.

    Thanks for the nice comments.

    Train to Seward

Thank you all for the comments.

As a passenger on the train I was at the mercy of the curves in the tracks to get the train foward of our car in the picture.  I would agree that more train in the image would be good.

I agree the sky is unaturally dark.  I tend to do that for my tastes.... maybe a phase I'm going through?

Our first cruise ever on the Celebrity Millennium. We learned a lot

about the people working on the ship and how the cruise industry

works.... not so sure it is a good thing.

A break from record heat of this summer. Shot this past winter near

our house. My wife.... our dog. Perhaps she was thinking of spring

    ahead of her....

I look at very few images more than once... this I go back to over and over.. not even sure why.  For my tastes desaturating the color or even black and white would work better to make a dark mood even darker.  Good Job!

  3. I think this image is about as perfect as one could ever hope for.  I can imagine putting in thousands of hours on the alert with the right equipment waiting for the right light and the chance to capture the subject.  Nice!

In Glacier National Park at Logan's Pass I was fortunate to have this

Bighorn pose for me. Perhaps he was making a statement about my

    intrusion by relieving himself. Richard

  4. The cruise ship Millennium on the water bringing in money while older

fishing vessels decay on land and will likely never be repaired. Multiple

exposures. This was taken in Icy Strait Point Alaska on our recent

vacation. Thanks for looking... comments welcome!

  5. Thanks Mark,

I've played around with a couple of versions of this.  I was aware of the "level" issue.. and the trees.  I'm starting to learn some of these things... slowly but surely.  I'm finding that by posting and looking at my images I get to see them in a different way.  I'll be in touch with you soon... still recovering from the trip.... I counted up my exposures.... 6041 for the trip!!!  Of course some of those are images bracketed up to 9 exposures.

  6. After two days exploring Glacier National Park we were on our way back to

Missoula to when we pulled into Ninepipe Refuge. There was enough there

to spend a couple of days alone trying to capture the scenes and wildlife.

    Thanks for looking and commenting.

On a recent trip to Glacier National Park my wife and I spoted this buck

eating underwater vegetation. Although I was told there were frequently

moose in this area Mr. Buck had the place to himself. My guess is he

    weighs 220lb+.
