1.
John, your question is not dumb at all. The camera records the images for stacking as if you were in raw+jpeg mode. So basically you end up with 8 raw shots and 8 jpeg's and the stacked jpeg. This means you can do your own stacking in PS or whatever, using the raw shots if you want. It also means if you get a little drunk on the power of seeing magically produced stacked images appearing on your LCD and try different f.stops and experiment like a mad person you end with something like 800 shots on your memory card and it takes days to try and figure out which is what and such lol!

 2.
Now the single image..

 3.
Towards the end of my testing I realised that a comparison shot might be valuable, so here are two, one stacked and one just a single shot. Because I used a tripod all I had to do was do one version using the focus stacking then turn it off in the menu and shoot again. This means that the focus point is in exactly the same spot so you can see the big difference in dof. First, the stacked shot...

 4.
Second one - shot at f.2.8!

 5.
Thanks Hosteen, will check it out. I have been testing the new focus stacking tool from the v.4 firmware update on the E-M1. Has anyone else here tried it?

 6.
I meant to also say that it seems there is something weird going on with the dates for this forum - there are two MiN's for November 30th (one of which is this one) and all the other MiN's are not correctly listed by date. In other words, up near the top of the list of threads is August & then September and then November is about a third of the list down. Just thought I should mention it :)

 7.
New toys are indeed cool, as are new things growing. There is a giant tree in the next yard close to the fence line which showers our yard with sticks and small yellow flowers (and I mean tons of them) but it does provide nice shade for our balcony so on balance it's a case of live and let live. About 15 feet up, just about eye level from our balcony, there is a creeping plant on the tree that until just recently, was nothing more than a few green leaves. Turns out it might be a Monstera Deliciosa, although it does not have the characteristic holes in the leaves (possibly because it is still quite a young plant). So seemingly overnight, it has made it's presence known.

 8.
Good one, Christoph, I haven't tried it yet, but will be when I get some other stuff done. There is a new manual (I think on the Oly site) but it doesn't really give many details beyond how to set it up.

 9.
Here's a shot taken with my four thirds 40-150mm on the E-M5 just for heck of it.

 10.
The grape vine is busily growing grapes (sorry Sanford)...

 11.
Yes, gorgeous waterfall shot, John. Nice pelicans, Hosteen. I have the four thirds 40-150mm and it works really well on the E-M1. I have also taken some nice duck shots with it. My shots this week are from the back fence area. Shot 1 is of some grass that is growing in front of the fence.

 12.
Nice one, Sanford. I have been using Perfect Effects for some years now, and just upgraded to version 10. You should be able to use it as a stand alone or as a plug in. When you download it the option to use it as a plugin will be there. Definitely check out the tutes on the website. Effects is just one module of Photo 10, and the best thing is that each effect is fully editable, with masking options, and layers like PS.

If you are not sure, have a look on the On1 site and check it out before downloading. As Rich suggested it could be the trail version, but it is most likely the 'free' version, which is not time limited, it just doesn't have all the presets that the paid version does.

 14.
Sanford - I have to agree with David - the second shot says it all. Great shots David, Louis & John. David I think you could definitely get creative with a pinhole on your A7. Louis, I really like that third shot.

I decided to try my better than 1:1 set up on the Plantain weed patch. Basically this means attaching my four thirds adaptor then adding my electronic extension tube then my four thirds 35mm macro lens. I can still use auto-focus, but most often I do need to do some rocking back and forth to get within the very narrow focus zone. You do need really good light and often you are mere millimetres from the subject and the set-up can really block the light. I really wish Oly made a micro four thirds extension tube that would work on my 60mm macro lens, but sadly this is not the case.

 15.
I understand - but does that mean you won't be getting a replacement? My E-M5 worked perfectly, I just didn't like the button placement (mainly the playback button, too tiny and placed awkwardly which made it hard to find in the dark of my studio) unlike the E-M1 which I had to send in for repairs after only a couple of months of use (the rear wheel kept slipping) but since then it's working a treat. I still have my E-M5 though, and it was good to have when the other camera was at the shop. I do want to sell it now though (hint hint) :)

 16.
One more...
