Splendid group of lovely ladies. Sparkling color to brighten us all. I would bet they wear a lot of personal gold for this ceremonial day. Part of their dowry in some cultures.
  1. Hi John. Another fine view of the passing parade of our world. Next time we send a Voyager off out of our solar system, I would include a disc of all your shots of people and places. You have a great eye for this category of photos...aloha, gs

Graham, you have captured her mood. And the closed in versus open quality of her arms. Protective and defensive almost. The only technical thing, which may or may not be of any value to you is that the subject seems to float in a blank space. It is hard to see her in any environment. I would enjoy seeing her on a floor or against a neutral wall. Or maybe not. I wish you both well. Regards, -g-
  2. Reminds me of the somnambulist in Das Kabinet der Doktor Caligari expressionist film. I have trouble understanding this ambiguous one , I fear. A little obscure for me. Not uninteresting in some narrative context, I presume. Androgynous ambiguity?
  3. The lighting is great and the skin tones are luminous. The model is vivacious. Somehow I have just a little teeny trouble with the way her fingers intertwined. If her right hand was at the same angle of her left, a more gentle feel would have evolved. I can't say for sure, but I pay a lot attention to hand positions as you do. Arms are great. Just a wee bit of variation of fingers maybe...or maybe not. A nice simple background works against the umber garment and vivid coloring of the lady. Sorry I do not participate in rating Chuck. I admire you work greatly by the way. Aloha -g-

Handsome photo and would love to see the great colors it warrants which I am sure are in the can. Nice hand placement and cape fashion. High class ...

  4. As to the darker shade in the upper right, I believe something would be lost if if were removed. It seems natural and of the same hue or chromatic scaling as the rest of the work, and even adds a little tension which does not hurt the overall watercolor feeling. If I tried removing it, and I won't, even for test, I think I would swing back to the original. Sometimes the original as found is atmospherically correct.(Ma Nature knows best -so she likes to have us accept).

My compliments on the POTW, Alf. One that is both nourishing and worthy of discussion as to why we admire it. Thanks too for your thoughtful and informative comments.

There is nothing not to like about this portrait. The use of the head scarf gives it a great sense of charm. And the dark green in the background is just the right contrast to the tones of her face. Very nicely made, Andres.

First reaction, Francisco, is that you caught an enchanting smile and most unusual and interesting garments not to mention a winning classical country hair style and flower piece. ( A small item to comment on- I would myself probably find a way to remove/clone out the man's face on the left of her and leave a consistent blue blur as contrast to her rosy red..I bet it would make a nice photo even better and more inviting. An idea if you care to play with the image a bit..).In short I like this very natural subject and costume. Sorry I do not participate in the rating program, not my thing..but I like this shot.
  5. Perhaps we could let our imaginations play over this scene. Hear as well as see. Watch the flashes and wait for the rolling reverberant booms below our lower bass.... See it in motion and in a panorama of this seaport village in the offshore Italian island of Sardinia. Needs to be much larger and fill the vision though... Obscure place where old legends never die...Maybe even a few Gothic elements( cue some theremin in the back for effect). Is that Dr Victor Frankenstein on the top of the hill, hoisting sled to the rooftop to catch the high voltage current on his creation. No, sorry, it is too late for Halloween. To me it has atmosphere. Mood. And atmosphere, especially in umber and velvet color works. Nature playing pins. The gods or ancients doing bowling games ... Imagination makes it. I am a sucker for stormy weather tableaux of fire in the sky. Atavistic thing, the fire in the sky.
  6. Interesting variety of spikes and bolts. I visited your town of Cagliari, Sardinia with my small Navy shiip when we sailed the Med. An interesting out of the way port. place at least then. If I had to offer a suggestion comment it would be to perhaps clone out the bright light on the left which somewhat diminishes the contrast with the town to the sky. Buon lavoro.
  7. I certainly admire the model and the pose, Mark. and the enticing wardrobe.. Much of the detail is alas obscured by a lack of filler lighting, well that is in my humble opinion, another light or two or three maybe?. Her flowing hair for one thing is submerged in the black background. And her arms and limbs are just a hint. Possibly you wanted emphasis on her face alone. I wish you well.
