1.
After my last computer update I haven't installed Canon software (yet) and frankly I don't miss it. I have not seen a significant image quality difference between Lightroom and Canon's DPP. Only used the latter for some diagnostic tests, to see the AF points the camera used. And now I think of it, for some lens corrections, for lenses that are not supported by Adobe (one or two older lenses).
No real need to use/install Canon software. On the other hand I've never experienced problems installing DPP or other Canon software but I keep my operating system more or less up to date (Windows 10 64 bit).

 2.
Start with controlled testing; take a few pictures of landscapes/brick wall and see how it behaves. Can you test is next to a 2nd camera?

 3.
Good to hear that there are still 10D shooters around. I use mine occasionally as 2nd body.
I use the 10D occasionally with a manual focus Peleng fisheye. Results are still as good as when the 10D was young and I have not heard any complaints about image quality.

 4.
Check the legal situation with regard to using (and importing) drones. I don't think you can use them anywhere you want without permits etc.
And beware of the hunting season: duck season? rabbit season? drone season? (there may be a new Looney Tunes episode coming:-)

 5.
Manfrotto 055XPROB fits your budget and your demands. But first decide whether you want a twist lock or lever lock mechanism to fasten the leg sections. Twist lock is faster to set up but they need re-tightening every now and then and your fingers can be painfully stuck between the mechanism.

 6. Given your lenses I'd go for full frame. 5Diii/iv and 6D come to mind. What do you use now and what do you miss?
 7.
Perhaps the easiest way is to upgrade your OS to 64 bits, if possible. Windows 10 is on offer for EUR 22 at the moment, through Groupon.

 8.
You must have missed the text in both forums asking you to not cross-post :-)
A short Google search will lead you to the main specifications of these cameras. There are even sites that let you compare the specs in a nice table. I'm sure you can find these.

 9.
I don't think you can ignore DOF because (if memory serves me well) the camera reports a point as being "in focus" when it is in the DOF area for the widest aperture of that lens. Professional cameras (1-series) use narrower tolerances. I assume that the AF points that light up are in the DOF area, as seen by the phase detect sensor.
BTW, it is not an exact plane that is in focus, it's a bit curved exept for macro/flat field lenses.

 10.
In the end please report who gave the best answers, pnet or https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4058228 :-)

I think you may run into trouble with bandwith with your internet provider. It's easy to fill a 4 of 8 GB card, which is about the data limit with lots of subscriptions. So you'll need one of the pricier agreements. And it takes time to upload pictures, so you'll need internal memory or storate cards to store the pictures temporarily.

 11.
Perhaps the EOS M5 since it seems to have a real on/off switch like the EOS models. Or have a look at the Canon Rebel cameras, or the SL-1.

 12. The lens will be the limiting factor. In smartphone terms it will be huge, phone will not be pocketable anymore. Or make the lens interchangeable and store it away from the phone.
 13.
A few more:

use a tripod

use manual focus

remote shutter (cable or wireless)

avoid on-camera flash

use a reflector to direct the light

aperture priority, vary the aperture.

 14.
Battery grip: either you love them or you hate them. Ik always use one on my EOS bodies when shooting handhold.
Check the options for Oly grips, at least some 3rd party ones come with built in batteries.
Using 2 batteris simultaneously will double the amount of shots you get before recharging but complicates charging. It's easier to charge one empty battery than two half empty ones, see Jochen's comment.
I have mixed experiences with 3rd party batteries (Lenmar). The BP 511 ones (EOS 5D) are almost as good as the genuine Canon ones, the smaller ones for the G7 (DLC2L) are not as well at a fraction of the price.

 15.
Looks like an internal camera problem then. Can you reset the M9? Otherwise it's a trip back to Leica.

 16.
Looks like data corruption. I had this once with a failing harddisk. Can be in camera or further down the digital path. Check wiring/usb cables, card reader, card, etc. How do the pictures show on the camera's screen?

 17.
It's all over the internet by now :-) Looks a serious mirrorless offering by Canon, only the price is a bit hefty.

 18.
You can get Lightroom for less than $300, $130 or so for the full version (no upgrade).
Inexpensive cataloguing software? I'm curious, I hope someone has a practical solution.

 19.
ctrl-b would be my first suggestion.

Hot shoe flash and not much time rule out manual 1/64 and slave. TTL is a film thingy, forget it if you use a DSLR. If there is enough light let the camera decide the exposure. Canon flash is mostly fill-in so P/Av/Tv with E-TTl should be a good starting point. Dial in FEC, flash exposure compensation if needed.

Have a look at http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/ if you want to learn more about Canon flash.

 20.
Clearly not experts in photography. Were they perhaps bankers?
All the lenses you mention should be good in low light. Since the narrow space wideangle could be best but it also depends on the pictures you have to take, overview or close-up.

 21.
Have your read http://www.photo.net/learn/concerts/mirarchi/concer_1.htm ? Apart from that it's a matter of practice. IMO in concert photography the speed of the lens counts. I prefer faster primes (85/1.8, 135/2.0) to zooms but that's also because I have them available.
WRT the discussion Nikon/Canon: don't expect miracles from the switch and be careful with other people's facts. They can be wrong.

 22.
Less than a stop correction? Ignore it, shoot RAW and adjust in Lightroom.
