  3. I believe KEH designates older lenses converted with factory parts as "AI" and lenses converted by machining as "AI'd."
  4. <p>Daphne by the pond.</p><div></div>
  5. <p>Great blue heron, near Nisswa, Minnesota.</p><div></div>
  6. <p>A sparrow (?)</p><div></div>
  7. <p>I believe that our local UPS Store won't provide insurance for more than $100 unless they pack it themselves. They charge rather a lot for packing, but that's still what I would do if shipping such a valuable item.</p>
  8. <p>Last week's Michigan Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony featuring my friend, the great Aleta Sill (second from right on dais, top right on big screen, more info here: http://www.freep.com/story/sports/2015/02/12/michigan-sports-hall-fame-bowling-aleta-sill/23279779/).</p> <p>There were some other guys too. Derek Jeter was a no-show because his private jet broke down.</p><div></div>
  9. <p>I dropped my D700 with 24-70, and the lens broke off at the mount. (Supposedly it was designed to break away in this fashion to reduce the likelihood of other damage.) Repair by Nikon in New York cost US$600—close to $700 with sales tax and shipping both ways.</p>
  10. <p>It was warm inside the Minnesota center where our granddaughter bowled with a little help from her dad. They didn't have shoes small enough so let her bowl in her rubber boots, which turned out to be on the wrong feet but didn't seem to slow her down.</p><div></div>
  11. <p>An older shot, recently processed.</p><div></div>
  12. <p>Here's <em>The Washington Post's</em> take on the story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/12/11/this-peter-lik-photograph-reportedly-just-went-for-a-world-record-6-5-million/?tid=hp_mm</p> <p>I was surprised by a couple of critics' remarks quoted there:</p> <ul> <li><em>Guardian </em>art critic Jonathan Jones said, "The fact that it is in black and white should give us pause. Today, this deliberate use of an outmoded style can only be nostalgic and affected, an ‘arty’ special effect. We’ve all got that option in our photography software."</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Megan Dick, the director of Australia’s MiCK gallery, said, “Being such a literal interpretation of the subject, landscape photography is more in the realm of documentary rather than art.” (I wonder whether she thinks it was art when Ansel <em>et al.</em> did it but isn't anymore, or whether it never was.)</li> </ul>
  13. <p>My dad is fond of Friday's onion rings and also likes making things in his workshop. So he made this stand to hold his onion rings.</p><div></div>
  14. <p>Same place and equipment.</p><div></div>
  15. <p>A couple of months ago in the Japanese garden at Normandale Community College in Minneapolis.</p><div></div>
  16. <p>American Thanksgiving Day is tomorrow. My dad is hosting the family party, so I printed up these cards for him to pass out. They feature his own handsome visage. I think he'll like them.</p><div></div>
  17. <p>A couple from a Zeiss-Ikon Contessa 35. The camera is a pretty thing but kind of a pain to use. Both pictures made with a Zeiss yellow filter on Tri-X developed in D-76 1:1.</p><div></div>
  18. <p>Wonderful stuff already. Roberta's water drops; Peter's Sanctuary; Leszek's bristlecone—wow!</p>
  19. <p>My dad's garage. The other three walls are similarly paneled and cabineted.</p> <p>Note the golf ball on a string just below the oil painting of the ship. Dad thought a white ball was too garish so painted it to blend in.</p><div></div>
  20. <p>Just a few weeks ago in Minneapolis, when the weather was <em>much </em>different than now.</p><div></div>
