  1. Mmmm, I just want to be there, lying on the beach!!! Have you thought of cropping down a bit of that sky? Right now it is vying for attention with the water. A lovely warm image though--could use it for a travel brochure.
  2. I love the context here. It is very atmostpheric; I could picture it on a brochure for this restaurant. There are two things though that I think could be improved: first, the tilt; the room seems to be falling to the right, and second, the color cast. While you want to retain some of that nice warm glow, I think a little more color correction might not hurt. Cheers!

This is a great travel/photojournalism shot. What is going on here, exactly? It makes me wonder about the action. Technically, you've done a great job balancing the light. It does look like your shadows are a bit grey, and could use some adjustment (see attached). But, a fantastic shot!
  3. Hi Nicolas--

Thank you for the suggestion. One of the original two slides used in this photo looks much like your crop. I like the expansiveness that the sky adds, and the dramatic 'popcorn' type clouds towards the top. I also wanted to take advantage of how this framing creates a sense of the scene rushing up towards you.

    I appreciate the suggestions though!

    Cheers!
  4. How intriguing. I see a lot of potential for this image: black and white variations among them. I would recommend cropping a bit off the top so that the bottom and the top have the same width of black 'border'. What IS that light, anyhow?

Please comment and rate this image--I love it--it was originally

taken on color film; I am thinking of digging out the negative and

doing a more careful scan...What do you think? Worth the trouble?

    Thanks, Elaine

  5. There's a great sense of combining two worlds here--the natural and the man-made. I love the cool indigos and violets of the sea transitioning into the maroon shadows on the boat followed up with the warm oranges and yellows of the lights. It is very well-balanced, in terms of lights and darks; it's not overweighted by the boat. I think it would have been nicer had there not been the industrial towers on the far shore on the left, but one can't be too selective about that sort of thing. It conveys a strong sense of quiet, and isolation. I love it. Cheers, Elaine
  6. This is a wonderful shot. I love the plain, neutral background. The colors of the flowers and the woman's face, contrasting with the dark clothing. I like the fact that we see a bit of the woman buying the flowers. My favorite part, though, is the hands. Three hands that radiate out from the flowers; I love how the woman is almost cradling them. There's a wonderful subtlety to those hands. My only critique is that it seems to be cropped just a bit too tightly for my taste; I would have liked to see just a bit more negative space framing the woman. Ah well! Still, quite a lovely shot.

    Cheers!

This is one of my favorites of your images. The light and the dark, and a moment of everyday tedium, beautifully captured. What is the red? Is it some kind of mark on the sheep to identify them?

A lovely portrait; I wish the light had been on his eyes rather than his forhead, but, who can pass up an opportunity like this?
