you have a great portfolio! this one is simply wonderful and a great example of keeping things simple, proof that one needn't travel to the ends of the earth to produce striking images, given a great eye and sense of composition. well done!

these dappled red leaves seem to float above the dark background. strong abstract elements combine with the natural realism for a very effective shot. well done. 

now i'm gonna seem like a dolt to jes' say it's mighty purdy. i like that there alien smiley face yonder on the right. no seriously...as others have quipped, the panoply of textures and geometry are quite pleasing. those of us of a certain age will see the anemic square on the left as a photo slide, and in it's robotic way it stares at us just as the star spangled alien does-- though without the suggestion of insouciance.  rich, contemplative work, sir! 

sweet, bucolic piece. very english mid-nineteenth century painterly kind of look. good balance and perfect sense of serenity. well done. 

thanks so much jack. btw, i keep meaning to spend more time on photonet and catch up with all of the great photographers i admire so much, including certainly yourself. your comments are always wise and appreciated. on this one i should have included a bit of commentary to deflect any sense that the picture is anything but harrowing to me. i found (apparently) a grave in a forest near the mexican border (the chiricahuas in arizona), an area infamous for the tide of poor people risking death trying to get into the country. dozens die every year. i don't pretend to understand what exactly happened here, but the stuffed bunny, quickly hand-made cross and the spanish language votive candle seemed to tell a very sad story. i was having a wonderful time birding this sublime area, but finding this scene  i went from ecstatic to profoundly maudlin. (i have contrived a totally different background-- this shows the saguaro national park much further west). thanks jack!

hi crystal, thank you for your comment. i use photoshop CS and a wacom drawing tablet. there are lots of layers and textures and a fair amount of drawing. in this case the bike had to be separated from the background (which was tedious given that the spokes disappear into the shadows and so on). that way i could build the background in a different way than the foreground. 

that is outstanding. brilliant texturing, splendid design and interest. well done!

i love it. good scene with perfect texturing. the building on the right is a bit nebulous without an obvious detail telling us what it is, but that doesn't matter to the strength of the overall composition. well done!

wow. amazing in it's simplicity. delicate and filigreed with subtle detail, like an old dutch etching. wonderful. bravo!

a very balanced and pleasing tableau of birds and botany. it's a great candidate for a bit of texture in the background. also i'd look at dabbling with the curves to bring out more of both the sparrows and to soften the break between the snow and the negative space. great image in either color!

odd pic and as others have said, as nebulous as some bob dylan tunes. the wall conjures the "security wall" through the west bank: hunter on the wall and a sad resignation of the central figure. it's a reversal, in a way, of the saint hubertus story about him becoming christian when he saw a cross appear between the antlers of a stag he was about to kill (as in the jaegermeister label). i might have tried making the deer, if not black and white, then with the cyan cast removed-- just a warmer fawn color. provocative and thought-engendering pic. 

wow, on a cold winters night, i can appreciate this. the balance is splendid and radiance is both  soothing and visually palpable. the avocado is odd and probably superfluous. but the vivid depiction of the flower stretching toward the warmth is priceless!

beautifully captured and then textured. the petals dissolving into the foreground is a great idea-- it becomes a flower scape. then with a squint of the eyes one can imagine a glowing nebula from the heart of deep space. 

like the others have said, the title is perfect. beautiful lines, coloring and light throughout. wow.

it's hard to balance one picture: you've done beautifully here with three. great textures and concept. 

quite beautiful. a couple of finer details could be nice, a water droplet or a ripple in the water, perhaps a couple of those pistil tips. it's true though that such embellishments may contradict the rich impressionistic quality. 

a brilliant, thoughtful piece depicted with outstanding technique.  the 'telescope' effect is fairly over-done in the world of texturally manipulated pictures, but here it is very well done. bravo. 

great angle and depth of field, the wing soars out almost like that of an albatross. the left wing has that primary feather askew which is interesting too. i'd look at a tighter crop with less blue  space above. and--if you're open to photoshopping-- i'd lose the post on the right and crop a bit there as well. dandy turkey vulture overall!

nice work. it's dense with little objects of interest evenly spaced, keeping the eye happily moving about. 

run!! that's a great pic ron, with the textures and the little brook and road juxstaposing nicely with the tornado. to give it a bit more terror i'd consider adding some debris and bending that foreground tree to suggest a thrashing wind.
