Personally, I prefer the yellow version; it's a little less stark, and the snow is more distinguishable.  You might try increasing the brightness / exposure just a tad so that more detail is visible on the birds.

Like Stephen, I prefer the color version.  The warmth of the background contrasts nicely with the snow.  The B&W version feels, well, cold...

 

That said, both are exquisite.

a very balanced and pleasing tableau of birds and botany. it's a great candidate for a bit of texture in the background. also i'd look at dabbling with the curves to bring out more of both the sparrows and to soften the break between the snow and the negative space. great image in either color!
